Tigers - rangers Game Preview.
from blessyouboystigersblog

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters Tuesday that he planned to sit catcher Alex Avila today in an effort to keep him fresh for Thursday.
Change of plans, apparently.
Avila is back in the lineup, batting sixth and starting behind the plate in the Detroit Tigers' series finale against the AL West-leading Texas Rangers.
It's the second straight game for Avila, who underwent an MRI early Monday after suffering from reoccurring pain in his left knee.
The results suggested Avila suffered from tendinitis -- the same diagnosis he received last season and Leyland suggested Avila might see less playing time behind the plate from here on out.
It's unclear if Avila will start the club's series opener Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Avila will catch right-hander Doug Fister, who will square off against the Rangers for the first time since winning Game 3 of last year's American League championship series.
The Rangers will counter with right-hander Roy Oswalt. Targeted by the Detroit Tigers this past offseason, Oswalt elected to pass on Detroit's reported offer. He eventually signed a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers on May 29 and he made his debut Friday.
The 34-year-old Oswalt gave up up one run with six strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a 4-1 home win over Colorado.
Brennan Boesch is starting in right field and batting eighth and Ryan Raburn will make his first start since Sunday, starting at second base and batting ninth.

Finally moved Boesch down I see...maybe they'll get rid of him soon.

Moved Boesch down but not Young, makes no sense.

I'd still rather they keep Boesch just send him down rather then get rid of him, but they have to know they are killing his confidence the longer they let him struggle with the spotlight on him.

He should have been optioned to Toledo a month ago.

And apparently the management is okay with a crappy single hitter (when he hits) in the 5 spot.

This team needs a lobotomy.

My only concern with getting rid of these guys...who are they replacing them with?

Which is why it's also hard to move DY out of the 5 hole. It's not like we have someone who is just lighting it up and we have him hitting 8th and not 5th. The bottom of the order is filled with underwhelming batting performances this year. DY will be in that spot for a while. Maybe if Dirks comes back you can hit him 5th.

Leyland said Valverde experienced cramping in his right hand after pitching perfect eighth Tuesday night. He hadn't pitched since June 15.

Leyland said the bullpen should be fully stocked tonight with the exception of righty Luis Marte, who could be used in emergency situation.

Lets see how Avila and Peralta do in the 5th and 6th spot...

We already know how Delmon does, Boesch is just an all around mess.

As for replacing them both or one/Young, Tigers have just under 5 weeks to see what kind of rabbit DD can pull out his hat good move/trade or his ass bad trade or no trade.

OT, but Chase Utley just hit a home run in his first AB getting back. Nice to see for a player that just plays the game and goes about his business in a professional manner.

What are you trying to say? That no Tigers do that? Prince, Miguel, AJ, JV, etc.?

I was just saying it was nice to see a ball player like Utley come back from injury and do that. I don't know where the fuck you got that out of what I said.

It's not hard to replace two of the 5 worst players in all of baseball.

Period.

Any AAAA OFer could outperform what those two have done, it's easy to pick up those types of guys for nothing.

Screw Elitist Oswalt, I hope we chase him by the 4th, the prick.

Shit, Berry is fast, but he does make some mistakes on the basepaths.
