Tigers vs. Rangers July 19, 2021 Game 95

Not Green that would be my guess, nxt Sept.?. Tork in May to get an extra year out of him.

Even though Green is a year younger, he has more minor league experience. He has 260 PA in AA compared to 106 for Tork. As far as development, I would say they are both very similar.

I would let them start in AA next year to get their feet wet a bit and bring them both up together after the date that allows them to get the extra year of control.

The only reason I say that is 21 year olds aren't common. I'd wait until September. Tork for sure but May.

I like Castro, Harold. Not going to have a big OPS but he can hit for average.

Miguel Cabrera is now 71-for-189 (.376) in his career with the bases loaded. That?s the 8th best batting average with the bases loaded in MLB history (min 150 PAs).

His 19 bases-loaded doubles is tied with Orlando Cepeda, Torii Hunter, and Albert Pujols for the 7th most ever.

This is the 19th time in his career that Miguel Cabrera has knocked in at least 5 runs in a game. It?s the 3rd time he?s done it against the Rangers.
69 hits to 3,000 and a five-RBI night for our Miggy!

Miguel Cabrera's 3-run double in the 5th inning is the 2,930th hit of his career, tying him with Jake Beckley and Rogers Hornsby for 38th in MLB history.

The double is also his 405th as a Tiger, tying him with Sam Crawford for 7th in franchise history.

Prior to the sixth inning tonight, the last time nine-or-more Tigers batters reached base to start an inning (via hit, walk or HBP) was the ninth inning on August 8, 2001 at Texas.

The last MLB team to do so was Oakland (11 batters) on September 12, 2018.

Seven runs scored in that frame was tied for the most by the Tigers in an inning since plating nine in the 5th on April 25, 2017.

"These are big moments for Miggy, our team, our organization and our fans," manager AJ Hinch said. "He has given so much to this franchise.
Miggy is in with the elite. You can go your whole career and not see things like this, so you've got to soak it up as a team."

The Tigers, 35-27 since May 8, are on a four-game winning streak.

Miggy (5 RBIs) leader of Tigers' hit parade.
Hinch says 'double/triple' was big swing in series-opening rout of Rangers.

Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are entering the second half of their season and we?ve had some time now to get to know the roster better. A. J. Hinch was brought on board to take this team forward and as such, the goal is to continue to improve the roster ? and performance ? for the 2022 season.

As the team continues to rebuild, it is expected that significant turnover will continue to happen as the roster evolves.

Which brings us to this week?s question: If we could take only 10 players from the 40-man roster as part of the 2022 core team, who would they be?
And why?

Our 2 bloggers list their picks with only 1 sentence each to explain their rationales. The kicker? Any players selected must be under contract with the Tigers next year.

That's a good article. I posted in a game thread a few weeks ago that I thought Zach Short could be a permanent solution at shortstop...maybe it was the draft thread when people were mad the Tigers didn't take one of the HS guys. Doesn't matter...I do believe he could be the answer there.

I really hope they can sign Schoop to a contract. I like that he has been playing some 1B as well as 2B. Sign another "Grossman type" free agent corner OF, maybe another innings eating starter for depth, and address the BP with a proven arm or two and I think they might have a team that could be in the wild card hunt next year.

Make it 72-190 now (.379) and Cabrera jumps Barry Bonds and B.J. Surhoff to the 6th best bases-loaded batting average in MLB history.

Tonight was the fourth time since the start of 1997 that the Tigers have recorded a shutout win while scoring 14-or-more runs.

14-0 W, 7/19/2021 vs. TEX
14-0 W, 9/26/2011 vs. CLE
16-0 W, 8/27/2007 vs. NYY
14-0 W, 6/30/1997 vs. NYM

So I know everyone hates the sacrifice bunt. But with Hill on first and Baddoo at the plate and no outs up 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh what is wrong with playing for a extra run? Use the bunt as a weapon with Baddoo and Hill?s speed.

Tigers win 5 in a row and are 45-51 six games under .500 and the closest to .500 in some time. Man that four game losing streak before the all star game at Minnesota still hurts.

Five game streak is the longest of the season so far.

Bunt for a hit okay but sacrificing is a waste. Just giving an out away. But in that situation bunting would have been a bad idea. I like bunts when there's no one on base.
