Detroit at Texas preview: Hot Tigers look to carry their success into the All-Star break.
Despite a thin rotation, the winning continues and could set the Tigers up for a surprising second half as their starters get healthy.

Daz Cameron scratched from lineup after pre-game toe injury.

INJURY UPDATES
Day to day;
OF Daz Cameron (sprained toe).
Expected return: Likely early next week.
Cameron inadvertently kicked the center-field fence while chasing down a ball in the outfield at Globe Life Field during pregame practice and was a late scratch from the lineup as a result. X-rays on the injury were negative. Manager A.J. Hinch was reluctant to say whether he'd put Cameron in the lineup given the artificial turf in Arlington, but added that if Cameron "wakes up feeling good" during the current series, he could possibly see playing time. (Last updated: July 5).

AL digsWAR leaders, last 30 days. Robbie Ray, Carlos Rodon, & James Kaprielian lead the pack with 1 WAR each. Skubal here.

Akil Baddoo is the 3rd Tigers rookie since 1933 with 20+ extra-base hits & 10+ stolen bases prior to the All-Star break.
Austin Jackson (2010)
Jake Wood (1961)

Since May 8th;
Akil Baddoo is slashing
.350/.466/.480
18 BB% - 19.5 K%
.401 wOBA
161 wRC+

Here's a foreward thinking thought..if the new MLB CBA cuts service time from 6 to 5 years..its likely that Ililtch will burn 3 years of Skubal Mize and 2 years of Greene before he realizes he has an incompetent GM..dumb guys..decide slowly..and do a lot of self inflicted harm.

Fun facts about Joe Jimenez.
-his fastball spin is in the 91% percentile according to Baseball Savant.
-his changeup usage is up 7% from last year (7% to 14%).
My take? That allows to use his fastball better (batters are batting just .121 compared to .280 in 2020).

The Tigers are 11-10 against the AL West as they head to Texas.
They are the only team in the AL Central with a over .500 record against the AL West.

How much better has the Tigers' lineup and plate discipline been since May 8? A lot better.
April 1-May 7:
.268 OPB ? 30th in MLB
7.4 BB% ? 27th
30.4 K% ? 30th
34.7 O-swing% ? 30th

May 8 -July 4:
.331 OBP ? 7th
9.8 BB% ? 10th
24.9 K% ? 17th
31.1 O-swing% ?19th

Wilson Ramos, Jacoby Jones, Victor Reyes, Grayson Greiner and Renato Nunez (none currently with the team) for season:

385 PA 16 BB (24.1 PA/BB) 120 SO (3.2 PA/BB) .182 BAVG .218 OBP .323 SLG .542 OPS

Everyone else for season:

2382 PA 257 BB (10.6 PA/BB) 710 SO (3.8 PA/BB) .245 BAVG .321 OBP .396 SLG .716 OPS

Wilson Ramos, Jacoby Jones, Victor Reyes, Grayson Greiner and Renato Nunez are also the 5 worse walk rate Tigers for the season.

It is refreshing to have a manager that keys in on these things. They got their chance and now someone else is producing.

Yeah, I never want to see Garcia pitch for Tigers again. No lead feels safe with him pitching.

Seven games under .500 !

2005 Astros from 15-30 to 89-73-1 and a World Series berth.

Can AA get it turned around before 2025 !

It would be cool to get back into the playoffs with Miggy still on the team before he retires.

Tigers 7 - Rangers 3: Peralta digs deep, comes up big.
Wily Peralta had his longest outing since the Obama administration, and the Tigers capitalized on some big fielding miscues.
