Gameday from mlb.com

DETROIT -- It might be a good day to be a groundball pitcher.
Rick Porcello will make his first start of the season today when the Detroit Tigers open a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The forecast for Detroit today calls for high temperatures in the 40s and winds of more than 20 mph.
Porcello went 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA in four Grapefruit League starts for the Tigers this spring. Left-hander Matt Moore, an early pick by many to be the American League Rookie of the Year this season, will start for the Rays.
Ramon Santiago was scratched from the starting lineup due to an illness that has hit several Tigers players as well as manager Jim Leyland. Danny Worth will start at second base in his place.
Alex Avila is also battling the illness but has been scheduled to get a day off today. Gerald Laird will start at catcher.

DH is like a day off. I would like to see Avila as a DH when Laird catches.Especially, after a day off (yesterday).

1:05 PM first pitch temps for the three game series is supposed to be....
44 degrees
50 degrees
51 degrees

Apparently a flu bug is going around the clubhouse.

Avila and Santiago are hit, and they already sent Scherzer home.

I've never seen a player run out of gas like Avila did last year. I'm fine with complete days off against tough lefties.

I understand but in situations where we just had a day-off, and he's hot.

you cant DH Avila when Laird catches...if Laird got hurt and Avila had to go into the game...you lose your DH and your pitcher bats.

Hopefully Rick can shatter some bats with that sinker on a cold day.

Hope iddle baby-kins Moore has mommy on speed dial cuz he's going to be crying to her by 2pm ET.

I hope they are stretching the hell outta Ricky, last thing we need is another muscle strain because of the cold.

All sports sites are blocked at my work now except this one and a couple other board sites, play by play is going to be great, thanks KC. Any other descriptions are appreciated too.

Porcello pitching 1st inning,

jennings strikes out swinging on a late life 2 seamer,

pena line drive to Peralta who times the jump perfectly with the outstretched glove,

longoria 2 and 2, just off the corner full count, grounder to Cabrera with a nice backhanded stop and the long throw,

Porcello with 11 pitches, and most 92/93.

Porcello and Boesch were my picks to have breakout seasons before the year started.

Porcello to me is right on the fence of going either way, he can look like an all star at times, but then regresses other times, I think he puts it together this year and is a key to our success.
