Tigers Game Preview. Scherzer's last 3 of last 4 games pitched vs. boston not good.
from Baseball reference
Dirks' achilles is barking, still day to day, so Boesch bats second,
Max Scherzer dominates RHH. So Sox have 7 LHH in lineup, Middlebrooks sits, Podsednik leads off.
Which Tiger hitter is that pos beckett going to hit tonight?
The ailing Detroit Tigers send Max Scherzer to the mound tonight, hoping to salvage a victory in the finale of a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox and avoid slipping five games under
.500 for the first time this season.
Andy Dirks won't play because of an Achilles' injury that is akin to a stone bruise, manager Jim Leyland said.
Additionally, an MRI on pitcher Doug Fister, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to Monday, “showed something,” Leyland said. Tigers trainer Kevin Rand is scheduled to update Fister's condition at 5:30 p.m.
Scherzer (4-3, 5.67) has won his last three decisions and the Tigers have won the last four games he started. Some of that is fortuitous timing: Of the five times the Tigers have scored double-digit runs this season, three occurred when Scherzer was pitching. Scherzer is 0-2 with a 11.81 ERA in four career starts against the Red Sox.
Boston starts Josh Beckett (4-4, 4.15), who has had some success against the Tigers, but that was before Prince Fielder arrived in Detroit. Fielder is 3-for-6 lifetime, with three home runs, against the Boston right-hander.
