Justin Upton: Drove in runs his first two at-bats with a solo home run to deep center and a single up the middle.
It was his 19th of the season and his sixth in the last 11 games. The Tigers are now 9-3 since he returned from a slump-induced layoff. He homered Friday to help the Tigers take an early lead.
Miguel Cabrera: Saw Justin Upton’s home and hit it even farther, sending it over the fountain in left-center to give the Tigers at 5-3 lead in the seventh inning. It went 454 feet, per StatCast.
Later Cabrera drove in two more runs in the ninth (his fourth RBI of the night) to give the Tigers a 7-6 lead. Miggy finished 3-for-5. Cabrera's 108 career RBIs against the Royals are the third most among active players. His teammate, Victor Martinez, is tops with 116.

Shane Green bailed out Justin Wilson in the seventh and got the first two outs of the eighth. It was JWilson's first run allowed since Aug. 17, a span of seven outings and 6 2/3 innings.
Tigers bullpen: Justin Wilson gave up a run on three straight hits to start the seventh inning before being pulled.
Shane Greene escaped the seventh but left two base runners on in the eighth, and even though Francisco Rodriguez made his pitch the Royals managed to score two runs to take a 6-5 lead in the eighth.
JaCoby Jones became the first rookie to start his first two games at third base and center field since Jack Stansbury did so in 1918. Jones' third game on Friday night didn't go as memorably. He struck out three times against Danny Duffy on only 11 pitches.
James McCann broke an 0-for-12 skid with a single in the sixth.
