Tigers vs. royals Game Thread August 28

OK thanks...Just another frustrating loss tonight to go with many that we have had this year..

Saying I just don't think does not mean "We are defintely not making it". I can understand being pissed off at a loss but quit trying to shove words in my mouth.

Not putting words in your mouth. Whats the difference between you saying "I dont think they are going to make it", "I dont expect september to be different" and "Im really starting to see the writing on the wall", all those statements lead to you writing them off. Regardless of if you said don't "think"/"expect"/etc. or definitely wont, you're getting the same point across.

They are two different things. You may not see it as such but they are two different things.

Okay, alls I'm saying is there is still plenty of time left. Yes, tonights loss hurt, but there are plenty more games that are far more important than this game. The only thing that matters is if they make the playoffs, and if they do anything can happen. Look at St. Louis last year.

I agree with that but it's also not good to have to rely on a St. Louis type run to get yourself in because that is not an everday occurance. We have 7 games left with the Sox so anything can happen but they need to play at a better level than they are currently.

ok, so i saw the replays. my mind cant comprehend it. both fair and foul. if it had been called fair inititally and reviewed, they probably wouldnt have overturned it either. its just our luck.

I know. I thought for sure it was fair first time. Even said to myself "Please get a closer angle so the umps can clearly see it and not screw us".... Turns out the closer angle screwed us.

Tough freakin' heart breaking loss last night.

I had a long hard workday; and got home just in time to see KC go ahead in the bottom of the 8th, and see Delmon hit that three run shot in the Tiger 9th...

...until after watching replay after replay I saw that it wasn't a three run shot.

"Delmon can't put two good swings together in the same at bat..." I thought to myself...

Although he tagged that drive to left on the next pitch, or the pitch after or whatever pretty good...came up a little short again...

Oh well.

Go Tigers!!!

To really know, we would have to slow down those two camera shots to frame by frame, to see if one of them managed to miss the ball passing the foul pole between frames. With a film camera, the camera is sampling just 24 times per second; I'm not sure what a high def digital camera would be sampling at, which is probably the case here, probably 60 times a second. On my 60" screen with slo-mo slowed down, the closer shot appeared to show the ball going foul, though I wouldn't trust that completely without frame by frame capability. The shot that I am referring to isn't up on mlb.com.

This just in from Dan Dickerson;

I've just watched the Delmon Young fly ball - in HD - a dozen times or more. There are two camera angles, one from behind home, one from LF.

BOTH seem to show the ball passing BEHIND the foul pole, so from home plate - fair, from LF - foul. But....

The shot from LF is blurry, and I don't think you can tell. The shot from behind home is clear: and the ball disappears behind the foul pole...

which means it was fair. You can stop the video on MLB.tv, and the ball is unquestionably behind the pole, going FAIR into the seats.

Clearly, many reasonable people disagree after seeing the two different shots....which means baseball needs to get a better system...

...I don't know what the answer is (cameras with wide angle lens on the foul poles?)...but surely the technology exists to eliminate doubt.

No question it was fair and a 3-run shot.

I have watched both camera angles, and both times the ball disappears from sight as it passes the pole, which means it went to the left of it and in fair territory.

The only thing I can think of is the umpires had different camera angles than we all saw with FSD [same used on MLB.com] and the detail was too unclear to change the on field ruling.

If the Umpires had seen the home plate angle from FSD we would have had the lead.

Has there been anyother conversations on this from MLB? I didn't see anything but I was not looking today while at work.

The replays from the game it looked fair from homplate and it looked like where the ball landed it would have been very clear that it was foul if it didn't go around the poll. I guess my thought is bias but they shouldn't have been in that situation anyway, Verlander had his worst game in a very long time. I guess he is not an ace LOL
