Coke's righty splits
BA. Obp. Slug. OPS.
2010: .276 .355 .358 .713
2011: .314 .375 .431 .806
2012: .396 .446 .604 1.050
Not to mention everyone, Coke included; has acknowledged Phil's velocity is not where it needs to be, plus his command (he hung that last pitch like a beachball) is still less then acceptable.
When guys like Dickerson and Price, who pretty much toe the company P.R. line come right out and say Coke has no business closing, it makes you wonder if Leyland does things just to prove he's the guy with the big dick in the clubhouse, no matter the outcome.
I have always stuck up somewhat for Smokes, even though I hated his lineups, too often use of bench guys in situations where the regular didn't need the rest, and his terrible bullpen management, because I assumed he was a numbers guy, and respected that, even when the samples were stupidly small. But we have been gift wrapped this division by Mr. I spending serious cash to get us Sanchez and Hunter, and if we're not 5 games up at the A.S. break, I'll be calling for the senile old mans head myself.
Those numbers are unforgivable, not for Coke, because any pitcher who does not want the ball I don't want on my team, but for Leyland ignoring his one strength, knowing the splits down cold.
