Tigers vs. twins Game Thread May 16

Or Putkonen.

But Worth was not going to play, we don't need him as a sub, so might as well send him down and let him get AB's in Toledo, rather than rotting on the bench.

would seem there isn't really a spot for worth on this team.

And yet we really need these stellar pitchers

L. Putkonen 1.2 4 1 1 1 3 0 2.67 10.50
C. Balester 1.0 2 2 2 1 0 1 1.39 6.50

Updated era after tonight game plus their effort... I will let you figure out the numbers Skippy. Did you miss the sentence i said send both out and bring up 2 different pitchers ....

Nope, I didn't miss anything Skippy.

I never said we shouldn't send Putkonen or Balester down, are you reading sentences that are not there again?

Still has nothing to do with what I said, was we don't really have a use for Worth, he was not going to get playing time.

I'm just not sure we have any relievers that are any better down on the farm. Do we have anyone that has a pitch besides a 95 mph fastball?

this was game 37 and the Tigers now have 25 errors.
that is a pace for 110 errors.

embarrassing.

We finally hit the ball so we decide to forget how to pitch and field. awesome....

That is funny....before the season I thought that they would have the worst infield defense in MLB. I have been surprised that Miggy has played as well as he has.

yeah I would have been happy with just satisfactory out of him, but he's a pretty good fielder with a nice arm.

Raburn homered the day before and helped the Tigers win... He is a maddening player to watch... Next day his error with 2 outs leads to a 3 run homer.... He giveth and he taketh... So much take in one player..

Inning should have been over I agree, but I think Porcello hanging a slider had plenty to do with the 3 run homer.

All 4 errors led to unearned runs, but in the end the pitching was just terrible in that game.

No doubt Porcello did not step-up.. He buckled under all the errors and when the tigers got him the lead back he just folded... I thought he would get it together after the Tigers got the lead back.. Still waiting for half a season for a player to heat up is just not good baseball from a managerial stand point.

And even though Santiago have a big hit he also had a error... I know Jim is trying to get him going but JP had some decent At bats and walks in the White Sox series and his obp is at .333 and I just don't see a reason to play Santiago over JP.. You have to get thst monkey off your back in regards to winning 2 in a row... Yesterday Jim managed to like there was no urgency and he felt we were going to roll over a 10-26 team... Just frustrating... Who thought our middle relief would be so poor, and the decision's Jim's makes with them are just as puzzling as their performance..

Something else about Porcello, his last two starts were short because of high pitch count, but low walks, which tells me guys are fouling off too many because Rick has not developed an out pitch.

He just does not have a swing and miss pitch like JV, Max, and Doug do, I'm really worried about him, more so than Max.

If Rick cant go deep into games, and can;t get guys to either ground out or swing and miss, he might need to be replaced, before he kills the bullpen.

i said it last year, but porcello has bonderman syndrome in a different fashion. both were brought up young, both were brought up before they should have been (imo), and both lacked a big pitch to compliment the really good pitch the tigers latched onto (bondo's slider and rick's sinker). bonderman didnt have the offspeed pitch to compliment his fastball and slider, and porcello lacks any sort of out-pitch which REALLY hurts him when his sinker isnt sinking (which happens about every other start, unfortunately).

he really should have had at least another season or 2 in the minors to continue to develop pitches. as it is, he only has his sinker. none of his other pitches are good enough for him to rely on with any regularity, especially when his sinker isnt working and none of his pitches are swing-and-miss pitches. he's never going to turn the corner unless he develops an out-pitch and gets more consistency on his sinker from game to game, and i dont think he can do that in the majors. if we dont send him to the minors at some point to work on it, we need to trade him and get some corner OF and 2B help for him. he can be someone else's problem then, and we will have turner who can replace him eventually (or below if we trade him during the season and turner isnt ready). thankfully we're not rushing him.
