Tigers vs. whitesox Game Thread August 31

Nice work. Now would be a good time for the Tigers to hit their stride. Credit to Doug Fister for pitching through adversity and Miggy for continuing to rake even though he is clearly hurt.

Hate him all you want, but right now Delmon has the biggest hit of the season so far for the Tiger's!!!

Really? It was a big hit, but biggest of the season, me thinks that's a bit of a reach.

Here's the bottom line w/ Delmon...he's going to play the rest of the year and in the playoffs and he's going to hit in the 5 hole. We need him no matter what anyone thinks of him. I only hate his glove, but I rarely ever criticize his batting approach. I accept him for what he is and does. But we need him and Peralta's bats to be productive...we don't have replacements for them. They're going to play.

At this stage of the season, coming after being swept by the Royals, possible 2 game swing in the standings......YES!!!

No he might be right, loss tonight would have all but nailed it shut IMO now just walk away from this series down 2 or less and there might still be a slim chance.

I think it's a reach. There are 31 games left. Losing tonight would not have meant the season is over. How many teams have come from quite a few games back the last few years to get into the playoffs. I posted the other day that the Rays were 7.5 games back of the Yankees with just over a month to go last year and beat them out of the wild card spot.

It was a big hit, I don't dispute that.

But just because it gave us the lead against the White Sox I don't think it's the biggest.

Cabrera's walkoff earlier this year was bigger IMO, that basically won a game on the spot, Delmon helped us out big, but we still had to hold them for 2 more innings.

But it was big, and needed, and I give Delmon credit for coming through. I just don't think we can call that the biggest hit of the season.

EDIT: it was the Red Sox btw.

You were saying last night it was nailed shut and you were passing on the Tigers in favor of the Lions.

There is a month of baseball left, until we are mathematically eliminated, there are no games that nail it shut.

He also said it was over when the game was tied 4-4 tonight. Too much season left for the doom and gloom crowd even when this team plays bad baseball.

Must not have been that big if you don't remember the game.....the only time they played the Red Sox at home was the first series of the year and I remember Avila having a walk off that series. I do, however, remember Cabrera having one off Perez against Cleveland recently....

A sweep of this series is a must and the pitching matchups look very favorable.

I am expecting a gem for JV after his last performance. I would fully expect he intends to redeem himself on national tv on the Sunday night game against the division rival they are chasing for a playoff spot.

Re-read my post.

The Red Sox bit was in reference to the person I quoted who said the Rays came from 7.5 back to overtake the Yankees.

I highlighted it when I edited it.

And for the record, the Cabrera walkoff I was referring to was vs. Perez.
