Tigers - whitesox Game Preview.

Austin Jackson will be recognized as the winner of the Tigers Heart & Hustle Award presented by MLB Players Alumni Assn. prior to the game.
White Sox on a 3-game slide. Elias Sports Bureau finds Chris Sale is 8-0, 2.02 ERA in 10 starts immediately after losses this year.
Tigers have won last 11 of 13 games. MiguelCabrera hitting .400 with 5 HRs, 12 RBIs, and Fielder is batting .383 with 15 RBI.
Right-handed batters are hitting .207 off the pride of Lakeland, Chris Sale. Left-handed hitters are at .209. But at least the righties have hit for some power. So aside from Prince Fielder and Brennan Boesch, the Tigers are going righty-happy today with their lineup. That includes sitting Quintin Berry, who has quietly gone 0-for-10 since his three-hit outburst Monday. Ryan Raburn, 1-for-4 with a home run off Sale since 2010, gets another chance to break out of a 5-for-36 July.

Gerald Laird will be in the lineup Saturday when the Tigers face the White Sox in the battle for first place in the American League Central Division at 4 p.m. at Comerica Park.
Laird will catch and bat eighth when the Tigers go up against All-Star pitcher Chris Sale (11-2, 2.11 ERA). Rick Porcello (6-5, 4.66) will be on the mound for the Tigers, who have won three straight to pull within one-half game of the White Sox.
Porcello has a 4-0 record (2.52) in his last five starts dating back to Aug. 14, 2010, against the White Sox.
When asked why Alex Avila was getting a day off, Tigers manager Jim Leyland replied, "He's (Sale) a nasty lefty and Gerald hit a home run off Sale in Chicago earlier this year to actually win the game."
Sale, a 6-foot-6 left-hander, last suffered a loss on May 12. The Tigers defeated Sale 5-2 April 15, reaching Sale for three runs and five hits in five innings.
Austin Jackson will be leading off with Ryan Raburn playing left field and hitting second, followed by Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, Jhonny Peralta, Brennan Boesch, Laird and Danny Worth, who will be playing second.
Leyland said he wasn't sure if left-handed reliever Phil Coke would be available. Coke's wife gave birth to their first child, a daughter early this morning.
"I don't know where he is," said Leyland of Coke. "His wife had a baby at 2 o'clock this morning. I hope he's here today. He didn't get much sleep. I know he was pretty zonked out. By the time he'd pitch it would be 6:30 or so.
"I'm hoping he makes it, but I don't know if he will or not to be honest with you. He might sleep and not wake up until 7 o'clock. That's pretty stressful. That's their first child. They had a baby girl. I saw a text of him holding the baby, but I haven't seen him."

The Detroit Tigers have pulled within a half-game of the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox.
Is today the day they reclaim the division lead in nearly three months?
A few observations from today's lineup: Ryan Raburn is back in left field, batting second with left-hander Chris Sale slated to start for the White Sox.
As a result, Tigers manager Jim Leyland is stacking the lineup with right-handed hitters, penciling Danny Worth at second base, hitting ninth.
Quintin Berry, who is hitless in his last 10 at-bats, has seen his .297 batting average drop to .280 the last three games. He'll be available off the bench, along with left-handed hitters Don Kelly and Alex Avila, who will get a day off with Gerald Laird starting behind the plate.
Rick Porcello -- who struggled in his first start of the second half, giving up five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings Monday -- will take the mound for the Tigers, who have won three straight and 11 of 13.
