Tigers, Justin Verlander both carry 10-game winning streaks into game against White Sox.
The Detroit Tigers are trying to win their 11th consecutive game.
So is Justin Verlander.
Verlander has earned the victory in each of his past 10 starts and will go for his 23rd victory of the season tonight when the Detroit Tigers play the second game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
Verlander (22-5, 2.44 ERA) is 4-1 with a 3.47 ERA in five starts against the White Sox this season. He has struck out 34 and walked five in 36 1-3 innings in those five starts.

Verlander seeks win No. 23, Tigers' 11th straight.
Already accomplishing so much with 22 wins this season, Justin Verlander could join some illustrious company on Tuesday against the White Sox if he can get win No. 23 under his belt.

Not only does the Tigers' hard throwing right-hander lead the Majors in wins, but he's won 10 straight starts, a span that reaches all the way back to July 15.

If he can get that 11th straight victory at U.S. Cellular Field, he would tie the longest streak by a Tiger since Hall of Famer Hal Newhouser did it in 1946.

Against the Indians on Wednesday, Verlander worked for his win. Surrendering four runs on three hits in six innings, the righty tossed 113 pitches and got help from a Detroit offense that scored eight runs in the victory.

"Everybody else sees Justin and thinks every time he's going to pitch, he's going to throw a perfect game," catcher Alex Avila said. "We're a little bit more in touch with reality sometimes, knowing how long a season can be. There's a reason why it's a team game."

Just as Verlander is streaking, so are the Tigers. Beating the White Sox, 14-4, on Monday, the Tigers have won 10 straight. The club's longest winning streak since an 11-game run in 1968 has put Detroit's magic number for clinching the AL Central title at six.

Tigers; V-Mart's ability to catch remains in doubt.
Having not caught in a game since he sprained his left knee sliding into home plate a month ago in Kansas City, the question remains whether Victor Martinez will catch again before the end of the regular season.

After Omir Santos was behind the plate on Sunday to give Alex Avila a day off, Avila was there again for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said on Sunday that Martinez could probably catch if absolutely needed, but they haven't had to try. Until that August sprain, Martinez was serving as Avila's backup.

Worth Noting.
The Tigers have won 19 of their last 25 games over the White Sox dating back to Aug. 14, 2010. In that time, they have scored 164 runs and have 48 doubles and 32 home runs.

After the game Raburn had yesterday why would Leyland not play him?
Wanted to get Rhymes a game. He's 3-for-4 off Floyd. small sample.
lefties batting .276 off Floyd, righties .220
Pick and choose your Tigers second baseman with good numbers off Gavin Floyd. Ryan Raburn (12-for-32), Ramon Santiago (4-for-15, 2 HRs) and Will Rhymes (3-for-4) all have them. But keep in mind two factors: Lefties are batting .276 off Floyd this season compared to .220 from righties, and Jim Leyland wants to start Ramon Santiago on Wednesday with Brad Penny on the mound. Add in the fact that Leyland was looking for a spot to get Rhymes a start, and today was the day. He

1, 2, and 9 have speed in this lineup.
I am hoping for a bit more from Rhymes. In one of last couple of games he looked shaky at 2B. rust? or just not that good. and Carlos has good numbers vs. floyd but...

I was going to mention earlier about Rhymes, but not pro Raburn, but why not Santiago...the guys red-hot, and I'm afraid dumb ass smokey is going to sit him too long and he'll cool off.

I'm with Bob on the Raburn issue, LHP only, just like Inge.

Miguel Cabrera now has back to back 40 double seasons!! Last Tiger to do it was Hank Greenberg in 1939-40.

Santiago is 4 for 15 off floyd but with 2 homeruns, I don't get it, unless he thought RS was due a game/start off.

Best record in all of MLB over the last 30 games, 10-0 streak and an 11.5 game lead. People still bitching about Leyland's lineups.

Verlander is on the mound. Pour yourself a drink and enjoy the show.

Like this lineup.. I can't stand Gavin Floyd.. He is a mediocre at best pitcher that should be getting torched by this team.. I could have settled for a close win yesterday if the Tigers were going to put up 15 on this bum..

OK, but trust me when I say me pouring myself a drink(s) wont help with the bitching about Leyand.

And I'm not really bitching about his lineup, it looks solid, I would just like to see Santiago not cool off from sitting too long, and I can understand people who complain Raburn is not in after going 4-5 yesterday.

The thing about perfection is: it's unattainable, but we'll always bitch until it is.

Leyland just said on the Radio show he is unsure about Delmon, and may swap him for Raburn.

They should let JV just go 6 here.. Get the bullpen some work..

UP by 5, I agree, less then that, no.

It would be nice to keep JVs pitch count down over his last few starts and still get him the Ws.

Looks like the mlbnetwork will have the Tigers game on again and Mario and Rod.

Toronto up on the Red Sox, if the Red Sox lose and we win, we will be .5 ahead of them, and the second best record in the AL.

Bragging rights bitches.

It would be really nice to see AJax heat up again right when the playoffs start. I would say now but I don't think he can sustain it that long.

Haha cool, at least you don't have to listen to the Hawk.

9 innings of that guy and I start making a noose out of bedsheets without realizing it.
