Tigers vs. yankees Game Preview.

Since 2009 JustinVerlander has 11 Monday starts with an insane 9.69 K/9 & 4.71 K/BB.
Yankees are 24-26 at Comerica since 2000. Only other AL park Yankees have losing record at: Angels Stadium 25-34.

Justin Verlander has been known the past two seasons as the pitcher to get the Tigers back to winning following a loss.
Tonight, he'll try to keep a four-game winning streak alive against the vaunted Yankees lineup.
Andy Dirks is back in the starting lineup at the No. 2 spot in left field. Quintin Berry takes the night off.
Infielder/outfielder Jeff Baker, who the Tigers acquired from the Cubs on Sunday, will be with the team tonight but not starting.
from the freep

The Tigers open a four-game set against the AL East-leading Yankees on Monday night at Comerica Park by sending ace Justin Verlander (11-7, 2.63 ERA) against Ivan Nova (10-5, 4.53).
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Miguel Cabrera, one of the heroes of Sunday's extra-innings win over the Indians, has hit safely in 33 of 36 career games against the Yankees. His average is .369 (48-for-130) with nine doubles, 13 home runs and 33 RBI against the Yankees.
Cabrera is second in the AL in hitting (.325), seventh in homers (27) and first in RBI (91).
from the detnews

The Detroit Tigers returned home from an extremely tough road trip late last week.
Then they picked up right where they left off the last time they were at Comerica Park by sweeping the Cleveland Indians.
The Tigers open a four-game series with the New York Yankees today with their best starting pitcher on the mound and riding a streak of 14 victories in their past 15 games at home. That streak dates back to a July 4 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
The only loss the Tigers have suffered at home since then was a 13-0 drubbing at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels on July 17. They have won eight consecutive games at Comerica Park since that loss to the Angels.
Justin Verlander (11-7, 2.63 ERA) will start for the Tigers against right-hander Ivan Nova (10-5, 4.53).
Verlander is 4-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 12 career regular-season starts against the Yankees. He is 0-1 with a 5.11 ERA in two starts against the Yankees this season.
Current Yankees are hitting a combined .223 against Verlander (including the playoffs). Just two Yankees hitters are hitting better than .300 against him: Derek Jeter (14-for-40, two extra-base hits, one RBI) and Ichiro Suzuki (17-for-51, six RBIs).
Nick Swisher has three home runs and seven RBIs against Verlander. He also has a .193 and 21 strikeouts in 57 at-bats against the reigning American League MVP and Cy Young winner.
Nova has just two regular-season appearances (one start) against the Tigers. He is 0-0 with a 7.36 ERA against them. Including playoff numbers, three Tigers have averages higher than .300 (in limited at-bats) against Nova: Delmon Young (3-for-7, HR), Austin Jackson (3-for-8, two RBIs) and Prince Fielder (1-for-3, RBI).
Andy Dirks will start in left field and bat second against the right-hander. Brennan Boesch is hitting fifth and Omar Infante ninth.

Hopefully Verlander gets his mojo back today. He's been underwhelming by JV standards of late.

Hopefully JV doesn't get screwed by mother nature with any more rain delay starts.

Delmon against a RHP.

Inexcusable, at this point, it's a legitimate reason to fire Leyland.

Like everyone here, I want to see the Tigers win these next 7 games vs. two strong playoff teams, or at the very least go 6 and 1. But if any of that plays out, I would bet right afterwards is when DD comes out and says they extended Leyland another year.

Righties actually hit Nova better. My beef is Boesch over Berry. Berry has more to offer.

This is the box score from earlier this year when we faced Nova. Note the righties did most the damage...

http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=320427110

Delmon is a career .277/.309/.401 hitter against RHP.

This year he is hitting .250/.289/.348.

He should never be in the lineup against a RHP, the pitchers splits are irrelevant.

I agree, I don't underatand why Delmon is in the game tonight. Berry got last night off. MAybe Leyland doens't like somethingwith Berry right now, but I think Berry in the 2 spot and Dirks in the 5, followed by Peralta then Boesch is a stronger lineup.

We'll see. Delmon will probably drive in 5 runs tonight and prove us all wrong.

Exactly...... Well except for DY driving in five.

Nice comparison FSD

Just throw average, home runs, RBI, and fielding percentage out there as if it means something.

So who should be playing?

JV dealing,

Granderson strikes out swinging,

jeter flys to Jackson,

cano grounder up the middle Infante fields to his right and throws him out,

JV with 9 pitches.

Might be a real good night for JV with the generous corner he's getting.
