Tigers vs. yankees Game Thread June 3

That's 1.666666666 runs per game - exactly in the range that Chica uses to support his assertion that Verlander is not a true ace - when the team scores less than 2 runs, JV almost never wins.

This team isn't going anywhere. What a waste.

The worst part about it all is that we are overspent for a franchise in a market this size because Iltch is all in right now. We take for granted that we're going to have a high payroll. If Mr. Iltch passes away I wouldn't be surprised if we cut payroll by $40 Million and the window on winning a title will have closed. It's just a waste.

You kidding, right? Our studs are locked up for awhile, some good young cats are under team control for awhile.

We just need replacement for some of our junk - 2B and COF and BP. And some good depth.

So when we score 0 or 1? Name me a pitcher who consistently wins without getting more than a run?

Well Leyland did acknowledge their awful approach at the plate and said they made no adjustments.

Yeah, I'm no longer confident we'll win this division.

DD is very good at getting star players, he's good at setting up his salary structure to allow him to sign such players (with help form Mr. I.) but he fails miserably at building a 25 man deep roster, and surrounding the start players with competent and quality big league players.

I thought the stars and scrub approach could work, but I'm no longer a believer.

Don Kelly, Brennan Boesch, Delmon Young, Danny Worth, etc.

The roster is full of players who are not only bad, but have been below replacement level play.

Simply horrible.

I'm still pretty confident we will win the division.

After that I think we're out of our depth though, unless a few players really turn it around, but even then I don't think were in the same league as Texas is.

god no, if we do end up making it to the postseason we will likely get steamrolled by them. their offense is what we thought ours might be. and their pitching is better (or at the very least, much more consistent overall).

And they have one of the top farm systems. Seems like they have it all.

from leyland: "Leyland excused Fielder from his targeted group, which put the focus on left-handed hitters Quintin Berry, Don Kelly and Brennan Boesch.

...

"Our left-handers -- aside from Prince -- had bad at-bats," Leyland said."

yes, because 2 of those 3 suck ass and the third has been up for all of a week and a half.

Texas has the stars like we did, the difference is they actually have the solid players to complement them.

We don't.

Even our minor league system is the same damn way.

We have Castellanos, and we have Turner.

The rest is pretty barren, it has absolutely no depth.

Brantley looks like he'll be a solid player, but then our other top prospects are the likes of Avisail Garcia, yet another player with no plate discipline.

We could win it, I wouldn't be surprised, and expect us to compete for it.

Just no longer view them as a lock.

We still have a shot because every other team in the central has just as many flaws as we do.
