Tigers vs. Yankees May 2, 2021 Game 29

JD Martinez .347/.431/.713
Nick Castellanos .330/.360/.660
How come we never get guys like that?
Lee Panas

Nicholas Castellanos 5-6 2 HR now leads baseball in HR also hitting .330..instead of figuring out how to keep him..transition him to 1B..which multiple analysts suggested..and paying him a reasonable 4/56M..DET dealt him for a RP and a tier 4 prospect..another of the reasons why.
Nicholas Castellanos since being dealt in 2019:
536 AB
152 H
283 AVE
38 2B
39 HR
90 RBI

Nicholas Castellanos had 11 total bases today, matching the season totals for both JaCoby Jones and Victor Reyes.

Since hitting homer #489, Cabrera has gone 0-18 with 11 strikeouts.

He is slashing .115/.193/.250/.443 with 2 homers, 1 double, 3 singles, 5 BB and 19 Ks. Those are Nate Colbert-like stats...IF he still was the Tigers regular starting 1B.

That is simply inexcusable and should relegate him to being moved down to 8 or 9 in the batting order....if not sitting him if there were any better on the bench (there ain't).

This game/day could/might see the end of Cabrera time in the 3 spot come to an end?}

No one wants to listen to me but kittens can not keep letting him bat 3rd!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK.
Totally Tigers

It?s time again to hear from our readers! Today is the day to let us know what you?re thinking on a selected topic.
Sunday is the one day of the week where we open up the comment parameters for you so you can get those juices flowing.

Comments today can be expanded to a maximum of 8 sentences.

We can?t wait to get your thoughts on the following topic.

The Tigers have lost 20 of their first 28 games and they are by far the worst team in MLB.
So much of the Tigers? performance has been pinned on Al Avila and Chris Ilitch. But is there someone else?
Beyond the owner, GM and manager, whose performance on the field is concerning you most and why?

And with Boston coming up The worst that can happen could be next.

All that you can get here on DSF is validation, and that is not often given here, Lonesome.

Away 53 PA 1 HR 3 RBI .260 BAVG .302 OBP .400 SLG .702 OPS

Since opening, Great American has consistently been in the top 5 for HRs. Most years, they have lead MLB. This year, so far, they lead MLB by a huge advantage.

However that ballpark homer factor might be, it still doesn't account for Nick's outsized slashline @ GAB as opposed to his road slashline.

I get that there isn't much legit major league talent on this roster, but it seems that EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is having their career worst season at the plate. What exactly is Scott Coolbaugh(our new hitting coach) doing with these guys?

bring back Lloyd McClendon

20 APRIL THOUGHTS.
Totally Tigers

Oh boy, April 2021? where do we start and thank goodness it?s finished.
As difficult as it will be to rehash the first month of the season, business is business.

It was a month that got increasingly worse and it?s been a shock watching the Tigers get to where they are today.

But let?s take a hard look at April and wrap it up like even this month deserves. Topics will be random and all over the map, the way we like them, and holdovers remain important for thoughts that need more time to simmer.

Please enjoy another monthly compilation of 20 Thoughts ? for April.

Avila took over a roster that had plenty of assets at the MLB level traded them away for nothing, spent a ton of money poorly his first offseason, hasn?t spent any money since. The entire plan is ?tank? and say hey the farm system ranking was bad and now it?s good.

Cheap Bastard Chris Ilitch.

Remember Detroit Tigers GM, Al Avila saying "quite frankly there has been no interest" when it came to trading Nick Castellanos? The Reds are laughing. Tiger fans are not.
twitter

It's the trade (or salary dump if you prefer) that would get any other GM fired. Remember when the Detroit Tigers traded Justin Verlander, another player AND $16 mill to the Astros? It just keeps getting worse....
The Tigers got Daz Cameron, Franklin Perez and Jake Rogers in return. None able to crack the Detroit roster and all are regressing.
Now we're learning that Franklin Perez, who was supposed to be promoted to AA back in 2018 and then also in 2019, is still stuck in High-A. It's reported that his velocity is unable to crack 90 MPH.

Just because we've got baseball's worst team shouldn't mean we are also required to have MLB's worst broadcasting team. Media polls have said it, so has The Athletic. Now the fans. Time to make a change!
It was neck-and-neck the whole day but the "winner" is Matt Shepard with 50% of the vote. Barely edging out Kirk Gibson with 45.11%. Jack Morris got the only passing grade with 4.89% of the vote.
Totally Tigers

The Tigers? run differential is minus 62 after 29 games. No other MLB club is more than minus 26. The Tigers? minus 2.13 run differential per game is worse than both the ?62 Mets (2.06) & ?03 Tigers (2.08). Those clubs lost 120 and 119 games, respectively.

I respect Chris McCosky as a hard working professional beat writer..I have also been a public baseball analyst and fan a long time..we talk to a lot of the same people..I'll promise you he DIDN'T speak to Chris Illitch..although he may have through sources been told that.

Chris Illitch is maybe the most bereft and gullible owner in baseball operations out of the 30 owners..look at the state of the franchise and who runs it..but even Chris..knows he cannot keep putting this product out there and costing himself millions..

Al Avila is getting fired..soon..even if they aren't broadcasting it..dead man walking..the cash register and the resume NEVER EVER lie..even if the owner does..

MLB (dot) com's power rankings released today.

Tigers again rated #29 of 30, above only the Rockies.

Must be their pitching that prevents them from rightfully being ranked dead last.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-power-rankings-after-week-4

I don't know why they would give the Tiger's pitching any credit. The Tigers have given up 3 fewer runs than the Rockies in one fewer game. Plus, 1/2 of the Rockies games are in Coors Field which is a hitter friendly park.

The Tigers deserve to be 30th.

Locked On Detroit Tigers Podcast: Bombed In The Bronx. 25 minutes.
The Tigers are a bad baseball team. Listen today as Chris recaps a sweep at the hands of the Yankees and vents frustration about the fact this season is basically over and we haven't played 30 games yet. If you have headphones on, turn your volume down in segment number three!

I would never listen to a second of anything Chris has to say. Gee thanks for jumping on a podcast and acting like you're all broken up over your shitty team. Actions speak louder than words.
