So the Tigers brass apparently believes that their CFer batting leadoff is somewhere between the Action JacKson '10 and Inaction JacKson '11 b/c he thought too much...huh??

I tend to think he is closer to '11 than '10 b/c BABIP doesn't lie.

Hope he proves me wrong, come next season.

Tigers willing to let Jackson mature at leadoff

"I do believe this, I just believe this suspiciously, that he just got caught in between a few things," Leyland said. "'Am I a leadoff hitter? Am I supposed to hit home runs? Everybody thinks I'm supposed to have power. Am I supposed to show it now? Am I supposed to get on base? Am I supposed to walk?"

"I think he just got [caught in between]. He's a sophomore, and I think he just [thought], 'Well, I did pretty good my first year, but now I have to make this adjustment, I've got to make that adjustment. And hopefully that's the answer.' I hope I'm smelling that right."

So Jimmy, based on your confusion conclusion and your not knowing anything about WTF your leadoff hitter is thinking when he comes up to bat, exactly what is your hitting coach, "Llegendary Lloyd McClendon" there for during ST and the regular season??

Gawddamn, do you have ANY inkling of how clueless those statements makes you and especially your coaching staff look?

Not to mention the OBVIOUS disconnect between you, your pathetically lame excuse for your hitting coach, and apparently at LEAST the struggling players that you allegedly are supposed to "manage"??

Jeezus!!

...sigh.

Every time you think Leyland is a good manager and despite what most of us think about certain in-game, lineup, bullpen management, scenarios, he comes up with shit statements like this. This was actually in a story from a month or so ago.
All I can get from everything said about Jackson, and also many of Jackson's at bats is/was he seemed to be in between on alot of pitches, seemed to take a pitch when he wanted to swing, and swung at pitches that once he commited to the pitch in that split/nano/ second he should have taken. From watching Jackson these past 2 years, I just have a feeling he is better being aggressive in his at bats. See a pitch you can hit then swing. when he trys to be patient and taking, he almost always is 0 and 2. which at this point in time for him is he is not a leadoff hitter, jmo.

Leyland said. "'Am I a leadoff hitter? Am I supposed to hit home runs? Everybody thinks I'm supposed to have power. Am I supposed to show it now? Am I supposed to get on base? Am I supposed to walk?" -- Leyland is a dumbass for saying this. He's suppose too get on base and nothing else.

I'd be lying if I said I thought anyone but Ajax would be our 2012 leadoff man.

Damn... a Number 9 hitter batting in the lead-off spot.... Stupid...

Usually teams bat a guy ninth until they prove they can lead off. Leyland does it completely backwards.

hell, the 1st half of the season, our 1st 3 batters hit under .200. it took for Magglio to get hurt and everyone and their brother to tell Jackass he was making out the wrong lineup, and yet he was in the running for MOY. all I can do is laugh when I hear Leyland talk baseball.

Tigers have bigger problems than lead off. Jackson is not cut out for lead off, but he did improve his walk totals last year. It's not that big of a stretch to see him hit .270 with a .340 OBP. If he doesn't have such a terrible start, he may be passable in the spot.

I think the bigger problem is that the Tigers do not have a playoff caliber infield right now. Peralta is very unlikely to repeat his 2011. Cabrera +3 average/below average/well below average players doesn't cut it.

aka...

"anyone in FA that we liked and could have added speed to our lineup we decided against cause we dont like spending money. We just like comming out with articles saying were interested in people then not acting on them. We think our conference is weak so were going to roll with what we got and make the playoffs and hope once were there that we can squeak by a couple teams with no run support like what we did last year."

I think you are right, as long as we stay competitive in the ALCD is all that matters to MGMT.

Saying it right now, with the current roster we're winning 83 games and missing the playoffs.

With the current roster we're still the best team in the division.

The current roster is basically the same as last years, without the dead weight of Guillen, Ordonez, and Penny.

With the addition of Dotel, and possibly a 5th starter to come.

We have to be the clear favorite to win the Central, probably by 10 games.
