If we got rid of Pitching coach Rick Knapp last year because our pitchers were awful, do we get rid of Lloyd McClendon this year because we need a new voice.

He's Leyland's boy.
This. Leyland named one of his race horses after Lloyd. That's his guy. Knapp wasn't. The only way I see Lloyd going is if Jimmy Boy is fired, if he gets a managerial job, or if he just decides he's had enough like Van Slyke did.

This is our 18th game of scoring 3 runs or less this season, but we are statistically slightly better than last year's team in average and runs per game. Llyod's not going anywhere.

What a joke.

Lloyd is NOT doing his job. There should be no loyalty in sports. Unfortunately, the Tigers don't play by those rules....sad.

True, but what the hell is Lloyd telling his guys out there? They don't look right. Agree?

I don't disagree, Tony. It is what it is though. When you look at the amount of rope given to players, coaches and GMs here in Detroit it's insane.

2011 = .277 BAVG 4.86 R/G (787 runs)

2012 = .251 BAVG 4.18 R/G (677 runs)

Huh??? How are we "statistically slightly better"? Am I missing something?

We were at 18th game of 3 runs or less at game 40 last year. We also had 18 games with 5 runs or more in those first 40 games (45.0%). This year, we have 11 in 34 games (32.4%).

Not sure. They showed the graphic late in the A's game today. The stat they showed had us at 4.21 runs per game this year opposed to 4.18 last year. Average was .252 this year compared to .251 last year.

Edit: when I checked ESPN's stats thru 33 games last year and this year, the runs per game this year is 4.21 and last year it was 4.18. When you add in the 34th game, then last year's rpg jumps to 4.32 and this year it falls to 4.18.

wouldn't bother me to see the whole damn bunch go, including D.D. sure D.D. gets the credit for getting some top players, but with someone else's money.he also has gotten a lot of failures as well. this team has far too much talent to be where they are at today. time for a change... A BIG CHANGE!

We're on par with what we were last season, and that turned out pretty well.

But yeah, let's get rid of our proven GM, and our manager who's 16th in all-time wins.

Someone call and see of Randy Smith and Buddy Bell are available, Hellifino wants to shake things up. :nuts:

16 all time wins fantastic, only thing it took him 30 years to do it.

proven at what, spending Illitches fortunes and getting proven players.

Some blame should be placed on Mr I too. He is the one that wanted Prince. A lot of us didn't think that move made much sense and it still doesn't. It certainly hasn't paid off one bit as of yet.

Who? Without Prince, you have Miguel back at first and probably Inge/Worth/Kelly at 3rd. That's even worse.

Why would you not want Fielder? Are you basing this off his performance in less than 40 games of baseball here?

I think we should be happy that we've got an owner who spends and wants to win. Things could be WAY worse. Just look at the Pirates, Royals, Astros, and other perennial bottom feeders.

Several fans keep talking about firings and such....I think there's a good chance they'd still be bitching, possibly even more, with any replacements.

I hate the argument that we'd automatically revert to someone beyond horrible if any change was made. It's absurd. Smith was beyond inept and probably one of the worst GMs in history. Bell was a dud here too, but I think that was more about the team he had to throw out there than anything else. Given the choice, I'd take most other managers ahead of him though.

I'm not panicking or wanting DD and JL fired, but I also don't think they are the end all, be all. There are a few other managers I'd rather have... Scioscia, Maddon, and Gibby are the first three that come to mind. I tend to like Gardenhire and Francona and think they could do well here too. As far as GMs go, I think DD is pretty solid. My biggest complaint with him has been contract extensions that got doled out, but I think we've done really well trading and drafting under his watch. Nobody jumps out at me as a GM I'd much rather have over him.

First off the idea of blaming DD is just stupid, and if you think he's the problem, so are you.

DD put together a 100 win team, if the team's not playing up to spec how can you blame him?

And Leyland, I get it you don't like him, I also get that as an Ohio State fan you don't like to bathe, lets agree to disagree.

But Leyland is not striking out or popping up with men on base, and Leyland is not coming on in the 8th inning and forgetting how to throw a strike. I get that a manager has to take some of the blame when a team is under-preforming, but if Gibson or Francona, or Gardenhire were the manager you think all of a sudden it would be all kittens and rainbows?

Seriously, the old shtick is getting stupid, blame the people who are playing like shit, have the balls to say Prince and Cabrera have not carried their load, and that out bullpen is pitching bad, and that Delmon and Boesch have no patience.

You're like a musician who plays 1 note only, and it's called Fire Leyland. It's a boring tune.

I don't or care either way but sometimes managers/coaches and GM's get fired just because, a slow start usually. People have gotten fired for worse reasons. Nonetheless, I don't see Mike I. firing DD.
