Today's Good Old American mass shooting brought to you by...

Campus shooting at Michigan State. 3 dead and five injured, some life threatening. As of 11pm lone suspect (male, short, black wearing red shoes, hoodie and blue cap with light colored brim) still at large. Allison Camerota of CNN last night ?the shooter is a short male, that?s about all we know at this point.? Good job Allison, the narrative is far more important than informing the public and keeping them safe. Actually, she probably did that for public safety because if that was known, all hell would break loose with racist, armed white students out hunting short black guys.

Update: police say suspect, a 43 year old male not affiliated with the university died from self inflicted gun shot wound.

Some friends and I just had our monday run through campus an hour or so before this. Scary stuff.

Well, what can we say? Gun laws obviously don't work, since this shooting occurred.

Repeal them. And give the police more money. They're the real heroes here.

Vote GOP: The party of freedom, police-respecting, and common sense.

And I condemn anyone who would politicize this tragedy.

glad you're safe.

my brother-in-law is an orthopeadic surgeon but he also does trauma at either Sparrow or Lansing General or both - i can't remember as it's changed a few times over the last 25 years or so. I spoke to my sister last night, but she's in Florida visiting our parents - said he was following the story but didn't say anything about him treating anyone so I assume he's not working but not sure if he was on call last night or not. I know he's safe, which is enough for now.

no, this is clear evidence that we should disarm and defund the police - imagine how many lives would have been saved if we sent a bunch of unarmed social workers to handle this incident. Vote far left - they're the only ones who know weakness and vulnerability is the only way to stop violence.

The truly idiotic part of this sarcastic retort is that nobody really even suggests anything "extreme" about gun control, and you morons think any kind of gun control at all is extreme. I mean things like limiting the amount of rounds an assault style rifle can hold, after all it's better to have more bullets to spray 'n' pray than be able to actually shoot with accuracy! Or making things that make semi-automatic weapons fire as if full-auto, after all the Founding Fathers knew we had to protect those because George Washington and the Minutemen ever have defeated Cornwallis at Yorktown without their bump-stocks

I don?t think they had bump stocks back in those days. I don?t think they had even semi automatic weapons.

Some recent president imposed a federal ban on bump stocks, actually, I can?t remember which one.

Maybe Clinton or Obama or Biden?

Not that anyone cares, but apparently MSU uses the "Hero 911" app or something that is at least tied to it. I got an alert about this shooting before it hit the news.

Obviously there is a lot that can be done, but from my isolated standpoint, it appears Law Enforcement around the country are actually trying new technologies and ideas. When we got the app, which our department pays for, it was for local areas, I have it set up to alert me to anything within 25 miles of my location at that time. The thought is, any LEO that has access to that app can respond. For some reason I got the MSU one last night and I'm a lot farther than 25 miles from campus.

So, some people are actually trying, but this is a deep rooted issue that goes back a long time and it'll be a long time before it gets anyway close to being fixed.

I heard that the shooter wanted to do the shootings at UofM but couldn't get in, so he did it at his safety school.

I think it was Obama but it was recently struck down by the Supreme Court, I believe.

the Las Vegas shooting was 2017. Trump was in office.

The shooter, who's motive is still unknown, killed 61, and injured over 800, either directly or from secondary impacts caused by bullet shrapnel.

From wikipedia, even after all that carnage I guess the GOP is so beholden to the gun manufacturer's and their lobbyists, they couldn't ban BUMP STOCKS. the only state to actually pass a law about it was Massachusetts.

The ATF included Bump stocks in the definition of machine guns, banning them indirectly, but the 5th Circuit declared that definition unconstitutional or something, so you can still buy them in most of the country, if you ever want to slaughter dozens of unsuspecting people for any reason.

The shooter was a convicted felon, still unclear how he got the gun but clearly that law worked pretty well, let?s write some more that only law abiding citizens will follow, leaving themselves more vulnerable.

His felony conviction was for an illegally concealed weapon for which he served 18 months in prison. not sure why his was a felony for which he did time while Mazie Smith?s was a misdemeanor - im guessing because he wasn?t good at tackling people. I haven?t seen anything about other convictions for the shooter - the article I read only mentioned the one felony.

This tragedy will be memory holed in a week and buried under the next heap of discord.

Two of the victims are from my hometown and one of them was really good friends with my niece's roommate at Wisconsin - she went to high school with him. My niece grew up in East Lansing and had hung out with the guy when she and her roommate came to town for games and holiday visits.

So if we shouldn't have laws on the books that don't prevent crimes, do you also support repealing all our famously ineffective drug laws? also rape laws. people still rape. and DUIs... people drive drunk all the time... only law abiding citizens obey them

This is dumb, even for you. You seem to be confusing laws against murder with laws prohibiting law abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional rights to protect themselves. If you repeal ineffective gun laws, murder will still be illegal, just like rape. I would have thought this would be covered in law school. Maybe you were sick that day.

I definitely don't support limiting the rights of law abiding citizens with laws that won't prevent these tragedies from happening - in fact some laws make these tragedies even easier by limiting law abiding citizens' ability to protect themselves. Again, I think murder should be illegal and support those laws, just like I support laws against rape and driving under the influence. I would think most lawyers would understand the difference. Most probably do, actually.
