Top 5 cap hits

Would another team give Suh 12+ million a year if he hit free agency? I'm just playing devil's advocate here. Let's say we play out next year at the 20 million hit just to get rid of it. Suh can sign with anyone he wants. What would he get? If you think it's 12 million, we should just extend him, as we should easily be able to get that size extension worked out. But Suh doesn't have all the cards. We may be hamstrung by the 20 million next year, but we COULD make do if we had to. After that, we just franchise Suh and work out a more reasonable contract.

We aren't going to give Suh 15 million a year to get out of a 20 million cap hit. But he deservedly will demand to be near the top of the DT pay scale. So be it.

Good point. Still, how much would another team give Suh if he hit the open market? It would be dumb for any professional athlete to take less than he is worth anyway, so what is Suh actually worth before we start making claims about extending vs. letting him walk?

12-14 per. I think it'll have a lot to do with if we make the playoffs this year. If we improve to a playoff contender he might work with us a bit more for an affordable deal. If not he goes and finds the highest bidder that is a playoff contender.

If we dont pay him someone will. Yes he gets bonehead penalties but he is a very dominate DT in the NFL. He can not be single blocked which then frees up other people to make plays. He is the kind of player you hate when he plays against you but you love him when he plays for your team. Cinci just signed their DT to a 5 yr 55mil. That sets the mark for Suh. I expect him to get around 5yr 60-65 mil.

Suh will not go the 'team discount' route. No way he only gets 12-14. Like stated above, he either gets a fat deal, or takes his 21m and goes home (big franchise tag following year or new team).

I'm thinking 7yr 110-120 mil.
