Top 50 Detroit Athletes of All-Time

Hank is on there but no Datsyuk? Thats like ranking Messier higher than Gretsky.

Barry Sanders was hands down the best athlete. If they are counting chamionships I can understand how he isn't #1. Other than that I don't get it.

Sanders is up there yes, but Howe meant more to hockey than Sanders to football.

I'd rank the top 5, 1 for each sport based on their total impact on the game:

1. Howe

2. Cobb

3. Sanders

4. Louis

5. Thomas

I look at from a different perspective. Howe was one of the best to ever play Hockey but Hockey isn't relevant when compared to football. Most of the country doesn't even care about hockey. Same with boxing.

I think that people are interpreting the word 'athlete' differently. I think some of us are thinking who meant what to the city and others are thinking the athletic type. I know that when I read that title of the list, I thought that Sanders would be number 1 on there. I know that I didn't get a chance to see a lot of the other players play, but Sanders was an absolute freak. He would have to start juking people out before he even had the ball for a second. Wasn't Ray Roberts our LT? I remember some brutal attempts at blocking people by him.

Got off on a bit of a tangent there

But just showing how Athlete can be interpreted.

And it was very fun going through this list.

Dave Debussre is conspicuously absent; Detroit native, played college Bball for Detroit Mercy and a number of years with the Pistons as a player and player/coach.

I definitely put him on ahead of Rodman and Charlie (who the fuck?) Bennett

I've got lots of issues with this list. Fedorov at #36? No Calvin Johnson or Pavel Datsyuk? Sanders at #5 and Cobb at #3? Layne at #7? Tram ahead of Crawford, Kell and Heilmann? Horton at #28 and ahead of Stearns? Lane at #40? Zetterberg makes the list ahead of Chelios, Hull, Shanahan, Konstantinov, Larionov, Kozlov and Ciccarelli? How about some love for Lem Barney, Lomas Brown and Chris Spielman?

Seriously Hull?

A guy who was a hired gun, and only played 3 of his 21 NHL seasons in Detroit?

Same with Chelios, Shanahan, Ciccarelli, and Kozlov, they don;t belong on the list either.

Not that I'm saying everyone listed does, or their were not serious omissions.

I agree Trammell is too high though.

The site does have some pretty cool gear for sale.

Has anybody ever shopped at this joint before?
