I'm actually to the point where I'd like for CJ to be able to play for a good organization his last few years. I saw Barry Sanders retire prematurely because of the Lions putrid organization, it would be a shame to see Calvin do the same. He deserves better.

I so would have rather have seen Barry play for another NFL team than walk away when he did. That was devastating.

Trade him to get picks. Outside that I don't care if he plays for a better organization. Rather him retire.

We can't absorb the cap hit this year. Also I doubt a team will take on his remaining base salary.

An aging veteran possession wr that cant get open deep and drops the ball everytime he's inside the 10. Ya....that'd get us a ton on the open market. Like a 3rd rd pick at best that mayhew would trade up to the 2nd to pick a rb. Yippie...

I'd love to see the damage he could do on the Pats.

How do you know? No Barry the 2nd out there but taking a RB in the draft that year might have helped. Nonetheless, I don't buy him not knowing before July.

50 years of terrible management and drafting. Barry didn't own the Lions anything!

Without fans, they don't play and earn money.

luckily for the Lions they have hundreds of thousands of blind, idiotic fans that have been spending their hard earned money for decades. The Lions are the Cubs of the NFL without playoff wins over the past 3 decades!

The biggest problem I had with Barry was instead of retiring at season's end he waited in July. After the draft.

Yeah that shit really chapped my ass too.

I never was all that bothered that he was tackled way too many times for losses, couldn't run north and south to save his life, eventually ended up being literally benched in red zone offense situations and never once, not one fucking time did I ever see him gain a 1st down on third and short to extend a drive to extend a season.

But yeah, when he announced his retirement shit, that shit really chaps my ass.

He's stuck with the Lions and that astronomical contract he agreed to. He made his bed, now he has to "Lion" in it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I do not blame him for what is currently happening to the team. It sucks for him that he invested so much into the team, willing to adjust his contracts to get other players and such...but there is no way another team takes on his contract in a straight trade and there is nothing that could be offered that the Lions would agree to.

Many of us said back when it was Stafford, CJ, and Suh making too large of a % of the team's cap that it was a recipe for failure. They are going to pay for that over the next few years too. There is no chance they get out of this financial situation easily. Lions got fucked by the NFL not implementing the rookie contracts before Stafford signed.

They have to get rid of Calvin next year. 24MILLY coming up....no way they can take that hit..

Well they won't get anyone to trade for him. Only way it can happen is to cut him, and then the Lions still take a huge hit.

The problem has been around for a very long time. Many on here said there would be a day of reckoning, and the Lions are going to have to take a hit one of these years, so maybe they decide to just cut him and take the hit next year, but they will soon face the same situation with Stafford too.

Mayhew should be fired for allowing those contracts. It was absolutely fiscally irresponsible.
