Trout $430M contract

Tampa Rays signed Morton for 15/yr. Yes they have a lower payroll but they signed a good player. We could have done that and stayed under 125. But we signed a bunch of 4-6m players that no one else wanted. I get they have better management. Imo, always better to win 80 games than 65 games. Win 80 and you're on the cusp so you sign a good player.. Not so with 65, teams don't try and get good players at that point.

Mr. I understood. He was the best.

TBR has 2x players with 5 or more years of service time, Morton and Avisail Garcia. Both signed in this last off season and Morton is just a 2-year deal. 3 of their young kids (less than 5 years) have already signed extension that are team friendly. Kiermaier, Lowe and Snell. Only Garcia is a pending FA.

DET has 8x players with 5 or more years of service time, 5 of which came in the off season. Ross, Mercer, Harrison, Moore and Beckham. DET has NO ONE, except Cabrera and Zimmermann, signed to more than 1 year. DET has 6 pending FAs, the 5 above plus Castellanos.

I get they have some high priced deals but like I said Morton for 15 and still under the non Mr. I threshold. But they decided to go cheap and spend 4-5 to fill a team. Fillers can be had much cheaper than 4-5. They go about it all wrong.

The Tigers signing a 35 year old pitcher to a 3 year $45M contract when they are re-building doesn't make too much sense. Especially when ALL of their top prospects (who are expected to make the bigs within the next 2 years) are starting pitchers.

Mitch, I have been on here for years citing not that they signed or traded for such or such player, but that such and such player did not come with "value". You can get all the Cespedes or Uptons in the world, but if they do not make you that much better, then the cost it took to have them, then you haven't gotten better.

Ross and Moore were signed early in Free Agency and DET bid against themselves to get them. They had enough pitching IMO to not go after them. They could have spent that money for positional players and actually got better in those positions. Mercer and Harrison are not players that add value to a team. Nor Ross or Moore. I am not even sure they would turn a team from 65 wins to 80 wins. But the Tigers do. The same Tigers that got Pelfrey, Lowe and Gose.
