Get StartedALLEN PARK -- This one is a bit of a head-scratcher.
Veteran linebacker Stephen Tulloch announced last month that his time with the Detroit Lions was coming to an end, and there were several reports the club would make the cut official after the start of the new league year.
But the new league year started at 4 p.m. Wednesday, and Tulloch still remained a Lion when the NFL issued its transaction report Sunday evening -- even though he is owed a $500,000 bonus if he is rostered five days into the new league year.
It's unclear whether that bonus kicks in today or Monday. The Lions have declined to comment.
"We have nothing to announce," a team spokesman said in a text.
Here is my conspiracy theory, which I will add to Inks.
Levy is fucked up. Like may not play a full season or even at all. There is not much out there to spend on in FA and we will have more than we need. Even at $6M we can use Tulloch as a safety net.
My opinion on this is the Lions would like to have him back......at a reduced salary. They didn't cut him because they didn't want him to be a FA. He's still a better backup than anyone else on the roster as of right now.
He's a great insurance policy to have and his cap hit isn't keeping us from signing anyone. Is it too high? Yes. But not detrimental to the team, at this point.
To me, this looks like Tulloch is going nowhere

Definitely cut him. Too expensive for a backup. The way he played last year he's not much of a insurance policy either.
If it comes down to Tulloch or someone like Gooden or Khaseem Green having to get important snaps in the middle......I'm taking Tully every time.
I think it comes down to the fact they want him to take a pay cut and haven't come to terms yet.
If he doesn't lower his price.....they'll cut him. If he does....they'll sign him. As of now, it makes no difference if he's still on the roster or not. Trading for Bostic, to me, says the Lions and Tulloch aren't going to come to terms anytime soon anyway......so this is all likely a moot point.
