UM hiring Howard

Nebraska, in it's entire program history, has never won an NCAA Tournament game. UM went to 2 Final 4s in the last 7 seasons. Nebraska just made a better and more proven hire than Michigan did. Fred Hoiberg >>> Juwan Howard as a coach, and also comes with none of the character concerns Howard comes with.

UM is going from one of the most experienced proven winners in college basketball in Beilein, who is also considered the cleanest coach in the country and has unquestionable character to a guy who is 0-0 as a coach, took money from Ed Martin during the biggest pay for play scandal in college sports history, has a DUI on his record, has several kids with different women, was sued for giving herpes to women, and was accused of sexual assault when he and a teammate ran a train on a girl (assault charges never pursued and he sued the girl and won, but the sex happening was never in question).

Bravo, congratulations Michigan, you found someone sleazier than Harbaugh.

I asked on a thread on the Michigan board and the consensus is Howard was completely exonerated in the whole Ed Martin thing.

I don?t know anything about Ed Hoiberg.

I don?t know how Howard is going to do - like I said in a post above I would?ve rather JB had stayed - he left; gotta replace him with someone.

That said -if Nebraska is so much better at picking new head coaches than Michigan, then why has Nebraska so comparatively sucked?

The utter meltdown is even more entertaining than I thought it would be. The obsession is truly, truly hilarious.

He wasn't exonerated, he took money and gifts. Everyone admits that, but he didn't take the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars that Rose and Webber took. I remember when getting a couple tattoos in exchange for an autograph was supposed to be a huge deal, Howard hung out with Ed Martin and received gifts from him, and probably $50 here or there, but it was so overshadowed by the $281K he gave to Webber that people want to turn that into exoneration.

And let's not forget who Ed Martin was too. He was a retired blue collar worker from Ford...who we know gave over $640,000 to Michigan players although much more is suspected. Oh yeah, he was the head of one of the largest illegal sports gambling rings in the state which he ran out of multiple union shops in Detroit. If you think anyone is moving gambling money through union shops in Detroit in the 80s and 90s without the mob being involved I've got a bridge to sell you. So is it believable that Ed Martin was just this swell guy who liked to hang out with young athletes so much he gave them hundreds of thousands of dollars? Or did he expect something in return for the hundreds of thousands of dollars he was paying UM basketball players? Who do you think all those autoworkers in Detroit were betting on? Anyone running a gambling ring in Detroit would clean up if say Michigan beat Minnesota by 7 instead of 15 when the point spread was 9.5(If this game is out there on Youtube, watch it, you'll see Chris Webber turn the ball over like 4 times in a row at the end to make the game close), or they beat Illinois by 8 when the spread was 14.5. But Uncle Ed was just a swell guy who likes to buy gifts for and give money to young 19 year old athletes.

Nothing Jhonny (sic) says has any credibility until he says it again.

When you say a men's/women thing several time I'm thinking its a men's women thing for you. At least admit it.

did you not see the part where I said "...I guess it sort of is a men's/women's thing when it comes to basketball but not because I have anything against women playing basketball or any other sport, I just don't find it entertaining." It's right in the post you quoted for crap's sake.

In case you're struggling to understand, what I'm saying is I have nothing against women playing sports, I just don't find women's sports like field hockey, softball, etc or women's versions of sports played by both sexes, like basketball, hockey, golf, etc to be very entertaining. Women are weaker, slower and less athletic and their sports tend to be less entertaining to me because of that.

If you don't understand or somehow think that makes me sexist, I really don't care.

I so badly wanted Fred Hoiberg to stay in the NBA until Izzo retired - he was (still is) #1 on my list of potential replacements, assuming the guy from dook is unavailable.

Fred Hoiberg was a great shooting guard at Iowa State in the early 90s who played 10 years in the NBA then had a great deal of success as the head coach at Iowa State before going to the NBA and coaching the Bulls for ~3.25 years. I don't know if Nebraska is better at picking replacements than uofm is and I have no idea how good Howard will or won't be - I hope he does well - but I think Hoiberg is a great hire for anyone. I don't like the move for him personally because I think Nebraska is just a tough place to be successful but he did it at ISU so who knows.

Based on MitchRapp?s style, I?m pretty sure he was making a joke he presumed would be obvious.

If Howard doesn?t succeed maybe Hoiboig will come to Michigan.

they say baseball is a thinking man's game, so that's probably the actual reason there are no threads about it here.

yeah, which is why geniuses like Lenny Dykstra, Darren Dalton, Darryl Strawberry, Ricky Henderson, Jose Canseco, Shawon Dunston, Sammy Sosa, etc, etc were all superstars.

It's a convenient way for people who obsess over such a boring game to not have to defend it on it's merits. They are the michturds of sports fans.

I thinks it's just that he's a troll who is not nearly as clever as he thinks. he pulled the same crap with an equally dumb comment on the thread about Izzo not paying players.

this is a bit of a stretch, even for someone whose posts are consistently among the dumbest on this board.

I thought Webber was the only one who took big $ - everything I've ever heard or read about Rose had to do with small payments here and there or clothing like shoes and winter coats, etc.

The rest is purely speculation but I wouldn't be shocked to find out Webber shaved points - the guy is a scumbag of the highest order (although I have to give him credit for refusing to re-sign with Nike when they wouldn't cut shoe prices). If it happened, it's to believe it was more than one or two - the more people involved, the harder it is to keep that a secret for so long. Maybe Jimmie King is keeping it in his pocket for the next time he gets arrested for failure to pay child support.

Baseball is not a boring sport. Darren Daulton was not a superstar. So the entire theory crumbles.

"Darren Daulton was not a superstar" is about as close as anyone has ever gotten to defending baseball on it's merits. The reality is, if you're not playing or watching your kid play, the game is incredibly boring - as I've gotten older I'm able to stomach it a bit more so that I can go to a game or two under the right circumstances but I won't watch a minute of it on TV or read a word about any of it.

I think everyone has their personal preferences. I would rather go to a baseball game than a football, hockey, or basketball game. I watch a lot of Tigers games but usually not from start to finish...just catch a few innings here or there. I follow the Tigers more closely than any other professional team. Baseball's not an exciting game...but that doesn't mean I don't have a good time going to a game. It's more about spending time with the people you are there with.

Of course, I may be odd, I like golf. I'll watch golf and would rather play golf than watch any sporting event...live or in person.

What you quoted was about baseball, you must?ve read it.
