Maybe they check down so much because Calvin is doubled, sometimes tripled and the number 2 isn't getting open. The only guys getting open are the slot guys, TEs and RBs on underneath stuff. Occasionaly Scheffler will down the seam. A consistent number 2 that gets open downfield would be nice. When Burleson gets open it was rarely downfield, usually intermediate stuff at best. That was supposed to be Young but he never was consistent at it even before he went insane.

I'm with you on CB or safety in Round 2 but if we actually get that blow the top off the coverage consistently WR I won't complain. Even it unfortunately means going WR in Round 2 for a third year in a row. Broyles is the futue slot guy, Young was supposed to be the deep guy but he failed. So now they might have to go back to the drawing board if free agency doesn't provide it. You like Round 3 or later but if one is there in Round 2, you know Mayhew is going to pull the trigger.

Can we get an admin in here? Somebody hijacked LKPs account.

You're completely delusional on the FA market

1) Robert Meachem got 6.5 million per with a lower salary cap just last year

2) Wallace would be the #1 wide out on the market even if Bowe and KC didn't reach a deal

3) Jennings wouldn't come to Detroit on a 2 year deal with 15 mill guaranteed. He's 29, this is his last chance to cash in on a big deal. He wants not only dollars but years.

1) people were doing stupid shit last year with cap room to try to get to the floor. Ask SD if they think Meachem is worth that much now. They played people over him all year. 14 catches 200 yds....yay.

2) Wallace didn't do jack last year and hitting FA following a year where Pittsburgh decided to go with a guy from central Michigan over him. If you think he deserves to be the highest paid WR on the market then youre saying he deserves 12 mil a year. Which makes you nuts lol. He deserves 8-10...someone like Cleveland might overpay him cause they have 45 mil in cap space. But not cause hes worth it. Hes an above average #2....similar to Santonio Holmes imo.....hes going to be overvalued....get his #1 money eventhough he isn't a #1. And in a couple years he wont be running away from anyone anymore and he'll be catching 50 passes a year.

3) Jennings is 29, coming off of injuries, and wont have aaron Rodgers anymore. hes not worth a dime over 8 mil a year. low ball him and see if he takes a hometown discount to stay in the division. its been done numerous times before....cant hurt to ask. I dint say you sign him for 2 years....I said you guarantee 2 years. big difference.

1) as with most of your personnel opinions you're using hindsight. there aren't teams who have a boatload of money to spend this year? there aren't teams with a boatload of cap every year? the thing you seem not to grasp is that the market sets its self based on who's available and what that positional value is. Meachem was an upper tier FA last year at the WR position. he was a young, somewhat proven #2 WR who SD was hoping could make the leap to a low tier #1. 6.5 mill per later and here we are. that's how the market works. supply and demand + value = price

2) the 2012-13 season totals

Wallace
63 catches - 119 targets - 836 yards - 8 tds

Bowe
59 catches - 114 targets - 801 yards - 3 tds

"Wallace should be able to command a five-year, $60 million contract with $27.5 million in guarantees in light of Bowe's deal. If Wallace's agent is able to successfully leverage the interested teams against each other in a bidding war, particularly during the three-day negotiating period, his deal could average more than $13 million per year with more than $30 million in guarantees where at least $40 million is in the first three years of the contract."

3) fair enough about the "didn't say sign for two years but guarantee two years". I thought you were implying the former. anyways, I still think both Jennings and Welker end up between 8-10 but it might only end up at 7 per. its just that Wallace will likely go quickly leaving only Jennings and Welker left as "top tier guys" and somebody will pony up rather than miss out, imo.

I am not a fan of Bowe because I havent seen him play at that explosive level against great competition but part of that falls on their QB position. Wallace wont put up big numbers playing for a team without a good QB. Big Ben throws a nice deep ball and gives him time to get open. But Bowe made good money on his new deal and I assume wallace is going to get paid as well. But neither one is really worth it.

"worth it" is completely subjective. depends on the team, the scheme, the internal viewings on positional value of the WR position, etc.

the market for free agent WR's in the new pass happy era was set by the Fitz deal. he's the one who really blew the doors off what conventional wisdom said was okay to spend on a WR. since then the market has adjusted and until a top tier guy either

A) is willing to take less money one of these years and bring the market value back down
or
B) teams just start refusing to pay what these guys are asking because the perception of the positional value has dropped league wide in the eyes of GM's

then the market will remain where it is at worst and continue to rise at best.

personally I look at this and say ewww to the both of them. both are really close to only a 50% catch to target ratio. Bowe I even give more of a pass to cause of his qb situation last year. But Wallace did not have a good year imo. Sure pitts is strapped when it comes to the cap but if they REALLy wanted him back they would have made it work. Like I said...I see him as a santonio holmes clone....and in a few years he will be garbage.
