UTL Marching Bands for UM and MSU

Saw it on Twitter last night but have been traveling.

Had 7:30 am flight to florida

When we won in 2013 on the FG and rushed the field, we wound up in the middle of the M marching band and my lovely wife sought out the Drum Major and made him pose for a picture. They cancelled the postgame band performance b/c so many had rushed the field.

Win #900

In the graphic, the Lower Peninsula looks more filled in, while the middle of the Upper Peninsula looks empty.

I wonder if that's supposed to represent that the UP gets more snow?

Because even though it might look like that in this graphic, in reality it's going to look actually more grass.

Even under the lights.

Or fewer people?

that was 2012, dude.

something like 97% of the population of Michigan lives in the LP.

been almost 20 years since I've been in the UP, but I remember everything up there was a little off... like they sold potato chips in cardboard cereal boxes. and we had never heard of the brands of food their stores carried.

I built a house for Habitat for Humanity in the UP one time. Great experience. Met a nice girl while I was there and she took me to the beach. It was about 90 out, so I thought it would be the perfect day to get in the water. Water felt like a god damn glass of ice water. All the locals were swimming around in it like it was 80+ degrees. I would have died of hypothermia if I spent five minutes in that water. Different breed.

Superior or Michigan? the Lake Michigan side is not that bad in the summer. Lake Superior is cold year round.

from The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald "The Lake it is said, never gives up her dead..."

the saying comes from the fact that Lake Superior is cold enough to prevent bacterial growth. normally, if one drowns, bacterial decomposition creates gasses in the body that cause it to float to the surface. Lake Superior is too cold for that to occur, so bodies of sailors that drown sink to bottom and stay there.

just some fun Michigan trivia to lighten up rivalry week!

Superior. Horrendously cold.

"...when the skies of November turn gloomy…Superior they said never gives up her dead when the gales of November come early…"

But what about when they don't come early? What if they come late or even just at the regular time? What happens to the decomposed or undecomposed bodies then?

Do they get all bacterealized and fill up with gasses and float to the surface?

the water temperature is largely unaffected by individual storms. as noted, Lake Superior is cold year round (esp. to us non-Yoopers), so his lyrics are misleading. I'll send him an email.

He already changed a couple of the lines once, and that was a long time ago...I don't think there are going to be any more re-writes at this point....

he can be forgiven for taking poetic license with the facts, I think

I wonder if the two bands will play that tune at the halftime...

bad idea. it's a little too much of a somber tune for football Saturday.

the fans in attendance will become mournful and introspective, leading to very little cheering in the second half, as they ponder the awesome power of nature, the inevitability of death, and their own mortality.

Not a hsppy song

They will be honoring 1997 team ( Nebraska also honoring their 1997 team. Lol)
