Very good Lions!!!

We actually agree on something.

CJ is my favorite player......he is my 4 year olds favorite player......and though 4 year olds don't have much of an emotional attachment to teams or players at their age......I do think he'd be crushed.

So would I.

But, it would be nice to see CJ get a chance at a title. NE would be a PERFECT fit for him. Not sure if it could work, cap wise, but he'd be reborn with Brady and Belicheat!

Brady to CJ would potentially be similar to Brady to Moss. I can't imagine NE not jumping at the opportunity based on how effective they were adding a with Moss, not to mention CJ has zero of the headcase issues that Moss exhibited. CJ's attitude would be perfect match for that team.

Of course Mayhew won't pull the trigger on that trade. Gotta fire him first, then do firesale.

I would too. There is still a part of me that would keep Austin. I know the D has been terrible.....but good god, look at what he has to work with. Like John Lynch pointed out.....its Ziggy, Slay, and MAYBE Quin and a bunch of guys that would be 2nd and 3rd stringers on good defenses.

Tulloch.....Lewis.....Bynes......Ihedigbo.....Mathis and to a degree Jones and whoever is playing the #2 DT spot are all role players asked to do bigger things.

I would keep Austin. Fire the rest. Trade CJ and Quin in the off season.....as they are the only players I can see getting anything for.

If there is an interm. It's Austin.

How much of the cap hit to we get hit with if we trade him though?

I don't understand the wanting to keep Austin? What has he done to deserve to be kept? The defense is giving up points by the grove. I'd fire him before Caldwell.

Austin absolutely MUST be fired. Did the Chiefs fail to score on any drive today?

a big one.....I don't think it would be possible in season......would have to be in the off season.

As far as I understand it......we would immediately be hit with the remainder of his signing bonus.......so that space has to be cleared and then it is dead money for the 2016 season.
Not sure if a sign and trade is an option, though.

Though it was last year, a #2 ranked defense is pretty good.

I think it's obvious 8 games into this season, that was a lot more the talent like Suh, Fairley, etc... than it was the coach.

ummmmmmm....yeah.....I don't get your point.

Name one "good" defense that doesn't have good/great players???

It's a players league......given good players.....Austin has shown he can produce results with them.

As the saying goes what have you done lately. Right now, he stinks. Last 4 weeks was just awful..

I feel awful for Austin. Mayhew took all his major pieces away. Got absolutely zero in return. Did not draft any help. Then Stafford continues to give the team the ball on their side of the field. The defense doesn't stand a chance. Mathis, tully....just keep rolling with these older guys that even the dumbest of fans knows they are going to regress. Mayhew is an idiot.

What it shows is that he can do well when he has great players. This week was an embarrassment. Last 4 weeks have been a disgrace.

Does that play a role? Sure. But if he's a good DC he should be able to limit KC, with Alex Smith, better than he has.

Right.

Again, you're confirming my point.

Given the players......Austin has shown he can produce a great defense. He doesn't have that now.......he has ONE good player (Ansah).......three above average players (Quin, Slay, Ngata) and a bunch of subs/backups/role players. What the fuck do you want him to do?

I want him to march into marthas house and demand the gm gets fired.

I just don't understand the argument that "he can only do it with good/great players".

Yeah, welcome to the NFL. NOBODY does it without good/great players.

Not Tomlin
Not Belichick
Not Coughlin
............

My opinion is that you keep the coaches that produce when given that talent......Austin did.

Great players? Suh left and Fairley was injured all the time. You make it sound like the defense was absolutely stacked. We've had a weak secondary for longer than I can remember. Austin needs a couple great players to build around, we don't have that now
