Wainwright might have torn his achilles

Don't get me wrong, I am all for having the DH for both leagues. I guess it is the stereo types of pitchers just striking out. While they do strike out 38% of the time, non-pitchers strike out 19.5% of the time. Add to the fact that most pitchers aren't really trying for the obvious reasons.

Then you have the Earl Wilson and Carlos Zambrano. Earl Wilson still struck out 32.4%. Zambrano 32.3%.

There are still some pitchers who can hit. Zach Greinke to name one.

Grienke? He's a .588 career OPS. Nice for a P but horrible otherwise..

If I own a team I absolutely do not want to send any of starters to the plate...ever. It's hard for most clubs to find a good starting 5. I certainly don't want to risk one of them getting hit on the hand, fouling it off their foot, blowing out an Achilles, etc...and for what....they give me nothing at the plate anyways. It's all risk and no reward. Throw in the fact that some of these pitchers are making 10-25 million and no thanks.

Another thing to consider is that starting pitchers are often taken out sooner for a pinch hitter when they might otherwise pitch another inning or more.

He had one bad year, but after that he's been a good DH. And the point to the discussion was most of those guys aren't full time DH's.

I didn't say they were in the same category.
