Saturday, November 23, 2024 @ 3:30 PM Eastern on FOX SPORTS 1... unranked 5-5 (3-4) MICHIGAN hosts unranked 4-6 (2-5) NORTHWESTERN, FOR THE GEORGE JEWETT TROPHY
Line: UM -10; o/u: 37.5
Sagarin predictor: 12 pt Michigan win
This is the 77th all time meeting between UM and Northwestern; the series score is 59-15-2 in favor of the Wolverines.
After a week off from Michigan football, you might have forgotten the season is still going on. I know I did. I thought it was over already, but turns out we still have at least two, possibly three more games to play.
This game didn't even make the BTN; you need to watch on FS1.
The only possible interesting storyline here is that this game is likely our last realistic chance to get bowl-eligible. ESPN doesn't seem to do bowl projections anymore, or at least not yet, because of the playoff rankings. But we might play in the Burger Chef Memorial Bowl, the Hostess Twinkies Bowl, or the Countrytime Pink Lemonade Bowl. All of which are MUST SEE TV.
Northwestern Football is mediocre. They're 4-6 and have played a pretty soft schedule on top of that. Their best win was at Maryland, but even MSU won there. Maryland turned the ball over 4 times, including giving up a fumble return touchdown.
A very sad episode of Stats Watch!!!:
....................................................UM ..................... NU
Total Defense:.......38th (335y/g)........58th (356y/g)
Rush D: .....................10th (102y/g).........28th (114y/g)
PED:......................................63rd...................62nd
Total Offense:.........129th (290y/g)....130th (284y/g)
Rush O:........................73rd (155y/g) .....120th (110y/g)
PEO: .....................................126th ...............129th
Turnovers: ........................101st (-.50).......61st (+0.1)
Penalties/game:............7th (4.3/g)....30th (5.3/g)
We're better, or should I say, NOT AS TERRIBLE as them in a number of categories. If you like bad offenses, this could be your Super Bowl. Maybe we could even get a 2024 version of the M 0 0 N game from 2014.
So go ahead and make your picks and post some analysis if you so choose, but as always, leave the woofing and barking for other threads!
