After the Forte fiasco this year no player is ever going to respect his contract or the team again. Forte did the right thing by not holding out the Bears refused to give him a new contract and then he gets hurt and that hurts his FA rating. Kinda messed up. But Cruz needs more then one good year.

When you make this points don't you think the Bears are thinking "I'm glad we didn't give him a new contract"? And other teams will be careful on shit like that? One year, he gets hurt in 2012, NYG fk'd.
I think his point is "Look how much money Forte might lose because he didn't hold out". And injuries can happen to any player. Doesn't mean you never extend people because they might get hurt.

Of course not and I know its not any different for teams who cut guys in year 2 of a 4 year contract. But as a fan, I just don't like when a one year player wants more money. Especially elite money. And personally, I think RB and WR, good ones are a dime a dozen. I'm not talking Barry Sander types here but I think teams realize if you want to sit out, "we'll get someone with your skill set that makes less money."

Look at the Giants Steve Smith he had one and a half good years and now he isnt even good enough to be a starter for 2 years running. How about Mike Furrey who caught a ton of balls one year and that was it. Wrs are unpredictable when it comes to money and most arent worth the money Cruz will think he deserves. Desean jackson is the perfect example how can he ask for more money and then show what a gutless weasel he is.

None of the guys you've mentioned have ever had a season close to what Cruz did this year. Over 1500 yards and he wasn't the starter for the first few weeks of the season. And how many of those guys helped their team to a Super Bowl?

Cruz had a remarkable year. He still has two years on his contract I believe. I could see if it was just a year left before he could try to cash in. We do not even know if Cruz wants crazy money or not. He may just want a little more as he is getting paid league minimum or whatever. Give him a couple years extension and place some of the gauranteed money into the first two years...It is a win-win for everybody involved. I think he deserves it after putting up the numbers that he did this year.

Theres no doubt he deserves a pay raise and a new contract but no elite money. If i was him I would ask for a 1 year extension meaning three more years with the g men and a raise to around 4 or 5 mil per. That being said its hard seeing the giant tying up more money in the wrs.

Cruz needs to repeat his play next year. If he has 2 years left on his contract, the Giants are telling him the same. The kid is a stud WR and he shouldn't have any problems having another great season. The Giants are not stupid and are not going to give a guy TOP money after one year. Not a chance......

David Boston had 1598 yards in 2001 and then 2 bad years followed by a no year came back for one bad year to retired. And along the way got a huge contract.

This is why I believe players should have contracts that are almost completely incentive based. Sure, give them a base salary and guaranteed money based off of past performance, but the majority of their pay should be performance based. Players would never be underpayed or overpaid.

Yea but look at Chris Johnson held out into the season got his new deal but was out of shape for the season. Either way its a dick move in one case scenario the team is an asshole and the other both are at fault. Im against holding out but i also think if people out perform their contract they deserve to get what they earn. Its a tricky situation.

So Chris Johnson should give back every fuckin cent he made then right??

Maybe keep $100.

I agree that a decent portion should probably be incentive based for contracts. The problem would be having a hard cap. If enough people perform then you could bust the hard cap...The other issue I have is what about the guy who just tore his ACL for your team and will miss the rest of the season or maybe a player has a career ending injury...They should still get their money in my opinion...

This is not a bad idea, the problem with Cruz holding out for a new contract is the cap, eventually enough players will have 1 season where they decide they are underpaid and hold out for more money, but then their wont be any teams with enough cap space to give them that contract.

If you got a shitty contract, blame your fucking agent.

1dt - cruz went to a high school that was low on radar of college scouts. He tried for Rutgers, but their last scholie went to the now Pats CB. His coach tried to help him get into bigger schools but they all turned him down. Not exactly a situation where you can blame the high school kid who tries to do the right things but is a victim of circumstances as much as anything else.

2nd - he will get paid after setting team record for yards in season. Won't be elite money, but Mara's tend to take care of their players who excel as they like to promote the Family atmosphere. Yeah, they have not given into some player demands as well, but they recognize disparity between Cruz production vs pay.
