Get StartedNot to name drop, but Ron Mason told me that the B1G could expand to 20 teams over time. This was on New Years' Eve 2015. He had then mentioned that Texas and Florida were under consideration, but never Louisville, claiming that it "did not meet the standards of the Big Ten."
Who the f*$% is Ron Mason?
I think he was the hockey coach at MSU for a long time. He died about a year after the conversation that byco is referring to.
Neither Canadian no US authorities have linked the events to each other.
I?m not so sure.
I know who he is and I suspect you knew that I knew. I said that because im not a huge fan. As AD he passed over one of the Millers (I forget which one - there have been so many at MSU) to hire his pal Rick Comley. Miller was qualified, former player, wanted the job and had the support of former players and people around the program. A lot of people, myself included thought that the Comley hire was cronyism and to protect his own legacy. Despite having won a title in ?07 (with inherited players), Comley sucked and quickly drove the program into the dumpster.

Comley is one of 5 college coaches with 700 wins. So there's that. There's no way to determine how the undetermined Miller would have compared instead. I do remember the raised eyebrows over the hiring. The bigger shock was the guy who replaced Comley. He was the editor for Michigan Hockey magazine when I was writing for Hockey Weekly. Their revenue was all ad-based and ours was a combination of ads and subs. HW was the far superior publication and Anastos knew it, so his modus operandi was to put us out of business. He failed.
CBSsports reporting the Big Ten's targets are Washington, Oregon, Stanford and Cal. Link.
This batch makes sense... more local west coast games in a "Pacific Division" of the Big Ten.
I still get the sense that this all comes crashing down sooner than later... things get their biggest before a collapse
Can't wait for those epic Oregon-Rutgers gridiron clashes in New Jersey every five years. I'll be riveted. And Washington-Maryland. These rivalries will rejuvenate college football.

I don?t want to sound like a crotchety old man but this shit is really hurting my interest in college sports (which CFB and CBB were always 1 and 2 to me for favorite sports). I was a very little kid (like 1-5 years old or so) when all the realignments occurred in the 90s, so I have no memory of PSU being independent or the SWC/Big 8. However, a lot of those changes made sense to me. An 18 team league? 4 schools thousands of miles away that we share a conference with? I get the almighty dollar bill drives everything but cant we have some level of common sense?
