in MVP conversations? I seriously don't get it...

Boston, its Boston. Surprised Sterling Hitchcock doesn't get some votes for NYY.....

yeah, because its boston. also because he's a scrappy white guy. voters love them.

Haha isn't every small white guy considered scrappy when it comes to sports?

Yeah it is a joke... East coast bias... The sooner both Boston and New York are knocked out of the playoffs the better..

The real question is how in the fuck did the little snotlicker win the MVP in 2008.

He wasn't even the best player on his team that year.

i checked fangraphs, he was 2nd in WAR that year to Grady Sizemore. his defense and baserunning helped that, but since when did voters consider defense in MVP voting?

all of the above.
That little midget F. What is he like 5 feet tall.
you should hear them all, it's like they can't decide who is going to be the MVP, the midget, ellsbury, or gonzalez. and some of them think beckett is a better Cy Young candidate. fuck boston, fenway, and the fans.

He gets a lot of big hits. But, it's good that he is in the conversation b/c it might siphon votes away from Gonzalez and Ellsbury.

The funny thing is that Ortiz is having the best offensive season of any player on the Red Sox and no one mentions him. He's less valuable than AGon and Ellsbury based on defense, but still.

Don't really matter.... he's not winning the award, or finishing in the Top-3.

A few very good ballplayers are either media darlings or fan darlings.... or both. Dustin fits that "both" bill.

Turn on ESPN; it's a Red Sox / Yankees slurp fest over there. I can't even watch SC or Baseball Tonight anymore it's so bad.

what motownwebguy said and this.
Seems that there are so many sports announcers at the stations, espn, mlbnetwork, and fox that are "fans" of the rsox, and they use their soap box pulpit to gloss, slurp, and wax poetic for the players on team.
I stopped watching all of them as well except for Kurkjian. for me, he is unbiased and objective in most all his baseball analysis.

I think WAR can be a valuable tool, but to use it as the sole justification for the MVP is a travesty.

Grandy is the front runner with JV and Bautista chasing. Boston has Agon, Ellsbury and Pedroia splitting votes. With a strong finish, Cabby could finish top 3.

I listen to ESPN radio all day long while working. I have never heard a single analyst mention Pedroia for MVP. Verlander is the name mentioned most often as a debate point. Most mention Granderson and A Gon as the lead contenders.

Look at Granderson compared to Miggy. Higher avg, obp, and smokes him by .50 points in OPS. A CF should probably get a little props because hes playing a position but he hasnt had a near GG. Outside of Detroit no one talks about Cabby but he deserves it more than Grandy.

Now Gonzo and steroid boy Bautista are legitmate contenders.
