Winter Meetings

What is with this inaccurate notion that Raburn can only hit for 3 months?

Other than his historically poor May last season, he doesn't have one month where he's not at least a solid hitter.

His career OPS by month
.746
.465
.751
.776
.852
.891

So other than May (and of course SSS), he'd be a very solid hitter in the 7th hole.

He's hit in April before.

Besides, his 2009 shits all over anybody's inaccurate (and plain retarded) notion that he's incapable of hitting the first half of the season.

He had a .914 OPS in May that month and an .831 in June.

Granted, the sample size is small, but of course, everybody who claims he can't hit for three months is basing their entire thing on small sample sizes as well.

Raburn is not an adequate LF, and he is not fine. He is the worst fielding player I've ever seen in the major leagues. He has had plenty of chances to prove otherwise, but has failed to improve his fielding. He does have a very nice throwing arm, but his glove sucks, and there is no disputing it. He drops routine fly balls, and if you watch the video above, you will remember just one of his many boneheaded plays. I would much rather take Delmon Young over Raburn in LF any day of the week.

Anybody who thinks DY is better than Raburn defensively is an idiot.

No point in sugarcoating it, you're simply an idiot if you believe that.

So what he hit last year for 3 months? And I remember one year he hit well in the first half and horrible in the second. I thinks its more about being inconsistent than 1st half vs 2nd half. Most months probably do average out. But the .746 in April is probably .500 one year, .850 the next year etc. He just seems to go bad for big stretches.

Yeah, players like Raburn, Boesch, Young, mediocre players like that will always be inconsistent if you go by a monthly basis.

So to use that against Raburn makes no sense, because that's the case for the majority of the players in the majors.

Like I said before I will give BB the benefit of the doubt because of very little ML time in. If 3 years from now he's doing the same I'll be all over him.

I've always been one of the few supporters for Raburn (as long as he is in the outfield) and I think the Tigers would be fine with him as an every day outfielder. He will have some bad stretches, but he will also be lights out for some stretches. That is how almost every player is, but when you constantly think about it and point out every bad stretch, it makes you think the worst of a player, especially in a sport where you fail more than you succeed.

DY hit some huge bombs in the playoffs, but if I had to choose between DY and RR, I would choose RR every time....as long as I don't have to hear RR's walk up music, which has been country every time I've heard it :/

Not sure what his splits are but I'd be okay if just against LHP.

Delmon Young may be weaker defensively than Raburn, and he is a worse baserunner. But he is, I believe, a better hitter and better overall player than Raburn. A big bat is what you want out of any left fielder, which is the position generally considered to be the easiest to play of any. I am excited to see what kind of numbers he puts up in a full season with the Tigers, if they decide to bring him back. Btw, there is no reason to resort to name calling when someone has a different opinion, or am I an idiot for believing that too??

I agree with the name calling, not sure why people do it. Unless maybe its a Packers fan

Ryan Strieby has been outrighted to AAA to make room for another player.

Lynn_Henning Lynn G. Henning
Good question on roster space: It's because they anticipate signing someone. This team is finally past having to gamble on Rule 5 guys.

#Tigers and Mets closing in on a trade. Looks like Andy Dirks for Daniel Murphy.

Raburn has been a better hitter and player than Young every year since 08.

Mitch[/color]]Two ACL in back-to-back years. But he does hit well.
The first was because of a rundown and didn't require surgery while the second was a collision. Don't expect it to tear again unless a collision occurs

Just by stats alone, he seems a better 2B than anywhere else.

What stats?

He's only played 24 games at 2B.

Only 28 at 3B too.

Will be interesting to see which on they put him at, or if they would have him rotate between the two based on matchups.
