Worst case scenario, not bad

I look at this signing this way, we are now better for 2012 than we were yesterday morning, however, as good as Prince is, it will be tough to put up the numbers in the clutch that VMart did last year. Now what happens if at the end of the year it is determined that we can't go on with Prince at 1b and Cabby at 3b, lets just say Cabby's D is atrocious. We can see if Prince and Cabby are willing to split 1b and DH in 2013, and trade VMart, or if Cabby can't play 3rd and isn't happy as a 50% DH, than we will have the best trade chip on the market next year. I think Mr I has a real love for Prince and would get rid of Miggy between the two. I love Miggy but I would have no problem with Prince at 1b, VMart at DH and 2 really nice pieces between 2b,3b and LF in a trade for Miggy. In the long run that might be our best deal. Imagine if you could get Ryan Zimmerman and Danny Espinosa for Miggy, that makes a pretty good IF for years too come, and than we make the kid from Grand Rapids, the 3b, into a LF, and we are set for the next 5 years at almost every position.

You'll be surprised how clutch Prince can be. The one advantage, Miguel on 1st - Prince has an easier chance to drive him in with the long ball. Plus Miguel will get pitches he never thought possible. I want Miguel swinging, not walking.

I like your ideas randyf10, and I think the best case is that it works out and we can keep both Miggy and Prince. Gun to my head, I like the future career of Miggy more than Prince, and think he is the prize worth keeping in the long run.

I know Prince can be very clutch, but wasn't VMart #1 in almost all the clutch categories last year? I know over the years thatr Prince is a better offensive player than VMart, but I'm just looking at the line-up between last year and this, until VMart gets better are we that much better? If Cabby is really going to play 3b, who DH's, if DY, who play LF, Raburn/Dirks?

How can you say that Mitch, Cabby was close to the worst 3b in fielding percentage and that was at least 50 lbs lighter, now I read he was going to lose 9 lbs to 255, no one knows for sure if he can handle 3b at all, and I don't see either Prince or Cabby as a FT DH yet in their careers, so how do you keep them both if 3b is a failure, which is a possibility.

Are we that much better than last year? Probably so, but not a great deal. Are we better than we were 2 days ago? Hells yeah bucko. I'll take Raburn/Dirks in LF in 2012. I think we could see a platoon at DH/LF with Raburn/Dirks/Delmon depending on starting pitching matchups. Could be a lot worse.

Because 1.) We have the best hitter in baseball and 2.) We just signed a guy for 214m bucks. This isn't Milwaukee where we have to let a superstar walk. They're not going anywhere. 2 DH or not.

Martinez will be 34 next season coming off an ACL. I love him but he won't be here much longer. This sets us up great for the future. And don't be surprised that Miggy is okay being a DH. The being a DH "this early" in a career is old. It's not like we're moving a stud defensive player to a DH.

We don't need to be a great deal, we got to game 6 of the ALCS.

Your assuming that one will be happy DHing I'm assuming that neither wants to DH, neither of us knows for sure, but what I'm saying is at the very worse, which isn't bad, we can make one heck of a trade in the next couple of years and fill a couple of big holes, if that is how it plays out. None of us knows anything right now except we have two of the better bashers in all of baseball :)

Miggy has already stated he'll do whatever it takes, which is why 3B was brought up. I have no doubt he'll be a DH if its best.

Where is that quote Mitch, I haven't saw that one anywhere.

Someone said it yesterday in a post here. Maybe it was just speculation but why would someone like Miggy say "I'm on board with Prince as long as I'm a 3B"? I remember when we first got Miggy and he said he was happy to be playing first over 3B, why would he go back? IMO, Miggy just wants to win and will do whatever.

If one of them is going to DH I would rather have Prince DH. Miggy is a below average defensive 1B but he is better than Prince.

But Prince doesn't want to DH. But if Miguel is at 3B, Inge is out baby. That's like an added bonus.

That is an added bonus. I better not hear people complain when JL replaces Miggy in the 8th for a defensive replacement!

He won't. You don't take out a player like Miggy, ever. EVER. Not in a close game.

I've been on these boards long enough to know this...the same people that want Miggy to play 3B will bitch when he lets a ball roll through his legs in a crutial late inning situation...and they will blame Leyland!

No they won't. Do they bitch when he makes a bad play at 1st? We bitch at guys like Inge, Raburn and Inge. Even Kelly and DY. We don't bitch about guys like Miguel or JV.

Miggy could also move to LF, where his defense wouldn't be as big a liability even if he was atrocious.
