Y do they have to toy with me like that. Here I was all set for them to actually win another game, preparing myself to post about their win as Luck tosses that soft checkdown. Ready to acknowledge all that led to their victory as 4 guys converged to prevent the TD.

But thankfully those 4 guys let them score that TD. On draft day, we should all raise a glass and give a toast of thanks that those guys helped secure a much better draft position.

Cheers!

Gunthers D didnt make a single tackle on the last drive lmao. 1 tackle.....at all....anywhere and the game was over. But we let every single ball carrier just run out of bounds lmao. Team blows...

This team has talent, but lacks discipline. The execution is pathetic which is a product of the scheme/play calling....on both sides of the ball (not to mention the horrific special teams play). I say fire the entire coaching staff and overpay to get Cowher or Gruden in here.

This is only the continuation of what the Lions have been doing since 1970 or so. Only the players have changed. It's a continuum that is strangely fascinating and extremely frustrating, too.

I think it all began with the Tom Dempsey field goal.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard Van Patrick make that call. The Lions did make the playoffs that year(1970) and lost to Dallas 5-0

as soon as that weak as toss play was called on 3rd and 5 my dad and I both looked at each shook our heads and acknowledged another loss was imminent. how do you play soft offense and prevent defense when you are up by 5 and your team literally is out of the playoff hunt if you lose. that loss was a collective one.

the oc and dc r products of coach...fire him and the others follow. same could be said about firing gm but not every new gm will clean out coaches. ford family is not likely to ever sell the team.

Honestly after having a day to cool down, how can this loss be blamed on the coordinators? The PLAYERS QUIT, plain and simple. Gotta be frustrating for the coaching staff to watch these guys hand other teams victories every week. When does the next rebuilding phase start? Cuz this one just doesnt have it.

A day? This year has been such a step back disappointment I can't even muster the strength to whine and complain now.

now what

I remember watching that game on TV @ Saints with my younger brother, the Lions sent two players back to within 10 yds of the goaline, both of them were looking @ each other and stifling a laugh. Dempsey kicked it with that brick of a shoe, the football sailed and hit the crossbar nearly square in the middle...and bounced over...wow!!

The TV camera actually shook while the Saints fans roared in glee, my brother and I just looked at each other in jaw-dropping shock...ugh!!

Little did we know how many, many, many more shockingly frustrating and disappointing games and seasons by future Lions teams were to come, but I suppose that FG was just the preview.

theres 4 instances that were critical in deciding the game and were on the coordinators:

Up 2 scores in the red zone middle of 4th quarter. we go pass pass pass....take 0 time off. settle for FG. still up 2 scores. touchdown was first most important. taking time off was 2nd....we did neither. All on linehan.

Up 1 score. first down ends the game. 3rd n 5. we run the ball and are TOTALLY fine with giving andrew luck the ball with over a minute left to beat us. taking 40 seconds off did nothing when they still have over a minute left to win. All on linehan.

Last drive prevent defense. Did not make a single tackle the entire drive. 1 tackle would have ended the game but we played a defense that just let them walk out of bounds on EVERY SINGLE PLAY. All on Gunt.

Last play. We put 8 guys in the endzone. We dont contain Luck....HOW THE FUCK CANT YOU CONTAIN LUCK TO THE POCKET ON THE LAST PLAY OF THE GAME????!!! No one covers a RB out of the backfield. They walk into the endzone untouched from 11 yards out. UNTOUCHED!!!!! FROM 11 YARDS OUT! HOW can that happen?!?!?! All on Gunt.

It starts with Schwartz...he was supposed to change the "attitude" of the team. Two Suh kicks, half a dozen DUIs, and a handful of Young tantrums later...doesn't seem like he's changed much of anything.

Oh yeah...he changed how the team parked their cars. I forgot. Woooooowwweeeee...

The team had a better "attitude" during their 0-16 season. Sure they stunk but Marinelli and Born Again Kitna kept their dumb asses out of trouble. I think Marinelli would've clubbed these idiots like retarded baby seals if he was still coach.

Actually, I take that back, it DOESN'T start with Schwartz...it starts with the idiots who hired him...and THAT goes back to the very top...the owners, the Fords. Hey this Millen guy ran your franchise into the ground, but by all means, hire his second in command to be GM! These dingbats that needed a government bailout to not go bankrupt. One of us needs to get rich and buy this team out from under these doofuses.

actually they were 1 business that didn't take the bailout funds.....

If Schwartz hasn't changed attitudes and expectations, then why are you so upset that this season has been a failure??

Detroit fans always want to fire the coaches. That's the MO. Bring in the next set of guys so in 2 years I can start saying fire them as well.

Coaches can do a better job but guys still have to make plays. It's always about talent. We did nothing in the off season to improve the defense so I'm not sure why anyone of us is surprised that the defense still stinks at times and gives up big plays. The offense just hasn't clicked as well this year and we no longer hit as many big plays.

This really could be a completely different season. With the exception of the road game against Minnesota a few weeks ago, every single Lions game has come down to the very last possession....either for the Lions or the other team. I'd say there is a 100% chance Schwartz is the coach of this team next year and a 95% chance Linehan and Gunther are back too.
