What will Calvin Johnson do??

I think the longer this plays out, the more likely he is going to come back.

But what do I know.....I thought Kevin Jones would be an All-Pro RB!!!

It's a slow week in Lions news.......thought I'd see what everyone else thought the end result of this CJ soap opera will be!

My thoughts, I tend to agree with yours. But honestly, I'm starting to get ticked off with Calvin. Seems to have told everyone but yet no decision. Are you too banged up or aren't you? Just make a decision, any decision.

Honestly.....I'm 51% / 49% right now.

I think there is a chance he comes back. His body is healing, the realization of never playing again is setting in, and honestly.....I think he'll miss it.

But those are just my opinions. I have read NOTHING confirming anything except what we all know.

My personal deadline is the start of FA......if there is no decision by then I'll get a little irked. Until then, its all a moot point. Either way, Quinn needs to plan as if he's never coming back. If FA starts and there is no decision.....you bring in WR as if CJ will not play again.
Because Calvin would be doing a lot of harm to his bargaining power if he waits until after FA.....when teams start spending their money.

oh. It would be helpful for the Lions if he decided prior to the beginning of FA but if I were him I would wait until I'm 100% sure.

Honestly, I could careless about when he's 100% sure. I just want it easier for Quinn and what he can do.

unfortunately, CJ holds all of the cards until training camp opens. As far as WR's...there really aren't many good options available in FA anyway.

I'm not talking strictly FA wide receivers but it would be nice for Quinn and Detroit to know how much cap room they had..

I also saw this as a possible reason nothing has been said.. Long shot I suppose but who knows.

"There is a third, far more cynical view, held by some Lions fans. The deadline to renew season tickets is Feb. 24. The theory goes that the Lions already know that Johnson is leaving but they’ve convinced him to hold off on his announcement until they’ve gotten as many deposits back as possible. Johnson is easily the most popular player on the roster and his retirement would undoubtedly affect some fan’s decision to renew."

It really shouldn't be very hard for them...there are a few scenarios for them to consider. They just have to have several plans of action depending on what they think is going to happen. Honestly, I think they are making plans to move on without him weather he retires or they cut him. That's what I would be doing.

Maybe. But what he decides to make some moves that leave us only with say 20m of cap available, after draft he less so.. He decides to come back in May, and bam, we don't have the cap space for him.

At the end of the day you either know you want to quit or you don't. Why even say anything to anyone, a year now, if you still had to think about it.

in that scenario he would have already either been cut or retire. As long as he is still on the roster they have to account for his $24M cap hit

One option Quinn may be monitoring is Rishard Matthews. He hit one out of the park signing a position receiver on the up swing away from the Phins early in his career.

That article, in all fairness, does go on to say that scenario is unlikely given how badly Martha wants to bridge the gap between the team and the fans.

I just don't see that as being the reason he's waiting. If it was.....it seems the team would do its best to squash even the rumors about retirement instead of acknowledging them.

just my $.02.

Calvin is done. No way he tells teammates before last season that it is his last and goes back on it. Especially when he dealt with the same type injuries as the year before. I understand the Lions asking for him to think about it after he told them the day after the season that he is done.

He knew going into the season. He stood by the decision immediately after the season. Nothing has changed and neither will Megatron's decision.

The longer this goes on, the worse off the organization is. Calvin is holding their decisions with free agency, the draft, and everything else in the palm of his hands. He's such a big player with the franchise that keeping this stuff secret only hurts what they do going forward.

He needs to come forward soon and end this. It's not like he's had a day or two to think about this. This has probably been on his mind since the start of last season.
