The Tigers have had 50 Draft picks make it to the Majors over the past 10 years, tied for the third most of any team. Those players' combined 106.6 Wins Above Replacement ranks 10th in the big leagues. Both totals are fairly impressive for a team that has given up Draft picks and filled many of its most pressing needs from outside the organization.

People didn't draft Porcello because they didn't think they could sign him, DD disobeyed Selig on Porcello when other GM's weren't willing to. To not give credit for being smarter than the other guy sounds ludicrous.

As for Avila, which one is it? They only drafted him because he is the Assistant GM's son or they had the inside track on him because he is the Assistant GM's son? Do we take that stat and say "Hmm, nepotism has nothing to do with it."

Also, by that logic the Dodgers deserve no credit for drafting Mike Piazza.

Not thrilled. Has no power, but could have a good OBP which goes well with his speed. We're at least 4 years away from talking about this kid reaching the Majors, which is another thing I don't like. We need outfield help starting next season. Oh well. Could be a good player, just not for a while.

Very weak draft in general. Almost no position prospects, and the pitching, while deep, is weak as well.
