ESPN: "Turnbull has two above-average pitches and the size to be a durable mid-rotation starter, but the lack of a quality third pitch have many believing he?s a reliever at the big league level. He sits 90-93 with his fastball with good sink when he gets downhill, and will touch 95. He throws a 12-to-6 curveball from a high three-quarters arm slot with inconsistent spin and depth, but it will flash above-average and he can generally locate the pitch for strikes.
While Turnbull has shown a change in the past, it?s really just a show-me pitch at this point, with very little movement and only average deception. His breaking ball and command have both progressed, so he has a chance to be a solid back-end starter if he misses more bats and the change shows more promise."
That report is eerily similar to Robbie Ray's before the start of this year.
