2014 MLB Draft

ESPN: "Turnbull has two above-average pitches and the size to be a durable mid-rotation starter, but the lack of a quality third pitch have many believing he?s a reliever at the big league level. He sits 90-93 with his fastball with good sink when he gets downhill, and will touch 95. He throws a 12-to-6 curveball from a high three-quarters arm slot with inconsistent spin and depth, but it will flash above-average and he can generally locate the pitch for strikes.

While Turnbull has shown a change in the past, it?s really just a show-me pitch at this point, with very little movement and only average deception. His breaking ball and command have both progressed, so he has a chance to be a solid back-end starter if he misses more bats and the change shows more promise."

That report is eerily similar to Robbie Ray's before the start of this year.

With their 11th round selection, the Tigers select righthanded pitcher A.J. Ladwig from Wichita State University.

With their 12th round selection, the Tigers select shortstop Garrett Mattlage from Texas State University.

With their 13th round selection, the Tigers select catcher Will Allen from the University of Mississippi.

With their 14th round selection, the Tigers select righthanded pitcher Josh Heddinger from Georgia Tech.

With their 15th round selection, the Tigers select centerfielder Michael Gerber from Creighton University.

As the saying goes, I think it's a saying, never can have too many catchers.

Not really liking the Turnbull pick that early but it's all a crap shoot anyway..
