2016 Draft- Who ya got?

lol all good , i was bummed when i read your post . Like damn guess Ragland isnt as good as i had thought . Be a nice addition for sure , long ways away from draft but its fun to hope and wish haha

CJ Mosley, another top ILB in his draft class from Alabama, slipped to 17 in 2014. It's definitely possible he slips to us.

Early on , it seems like there's quite a few teams that could go after anything but LB , so i'm not ruling the chance out . Like you said , Mosely slipped a little bit only because of teams needs so who knows !!

Round 1 - Conklin - LT
2 - Connor Cook - QB
3 - Shalique Calhoun - DE
4 - Jack Allen - C
5 - Aaron Burbridge - WR

ALL MSU draft.

Book it!!!

(im kidding of course.....but it wouldn't be a terrible draft)

I'm a Wolverine fan and I'm all in on Burbridge at where people are projecting him. Yes please.

Two Starters, two upsides, and a QB to groom/back up that may actually win a game? We could do worse.

Id think Burbridge might even "start" opposite Tate. Not much work to do when all you have to do is beat out TJ Jones.

Im assuming this will be my annual value post that gets flamed.....I like ragland a lot....but you just don't pick a 4-3 MLB nowadays in the early rounds.

Need, value, BPA....points at dline and oline for us.

Don't like the corners in this years draft.

Jalen Ramsey would be an interesting S/LB hybrid that could play a honey badger type role.

Probably wont like the WRs avail at 16.

Im leaning DT or OT at 16 which we should be staring at some great value when we pick.

We simply HAVE to address the T position this offseason.

Depending on who's available, that would be my top priority in round 1-3. Can we just stop with the 7th round tackle picks already? Waddle is adequate as a good backup, but we need a starter. Seriously.

edit-------------------------------
I'm not saying we pick all tackles in the first three rounds, I'm saying that depending upon value we need to come away with a starting caliber tackle somewhere in the first three rounds.

Waddle plays for NE.

The draft does seem to play out that way right now. Deep in OT and DT.

I imagine some WR will run a time in the 4.3's and shoot up the board.....Fuller from ND or Coleman from Baylor. Doctson seems to fit what this team needs a bit more than those two. However, the success of OBJ has changed my thoughts that you don't NEED a big outside WR. I'd take Coleman in the 1st and Burbridge in the 4th-5th.

A WR lineup that looks like this would work for me

Tate
Coleman
Jones
Burbridge
Fuller

There isn't a ton of size in that group....but there is some good speed and play making ability.

Why would you get flamed? Most MLBs are two down players in today's NFL. Unless you have one that can cover Tight Ends in man coverage (Kuechly, or in this draft maybe Jack or Smith) they aren't worth a high pick. I see Ragland falling to a team like the Pats that grab those late 1s value.

As for the CBs, I like both top guys. After that there seems to be a significant drop off. If you want to talk value though I think if you go OT in round 1 followed by DT in round 2 you are going to get 2 picks that maybe went in the top 10 in years where those positions were much more shallow than this one.

I hate the idea of using a high draft pick on the OT position . How many times have "can't miss" 1st round tackles been complete bust's ? Its not worth the risk , they almost always end up sucking .

Besides , Michael Ola came in and played great at RT . What we really need is for the line to be healthy and grow as a unit . They have the talent to be really good , just need time together . If we could upgrade through free agency , and get a known player than thats different .

That's coach speak for your line sucks ass and needs to be upgraded.

Not really , we have 2 young guards who are very good . Ola i think was a blessing and played well . Reiff is solid but could upgrade , the one i would def look to replace is Swanson . My main thing is i dont wanna draft a OT in the 1st round , they are almost always bust's . I'm all for improving through free agency for known commodities , but are they out there is the question .

Did they ever sort out the compensation picks for Suh, Fairley, and Collins? I assume a 3rd, 5th, and 7th?

Looks like comp picks will be determined at a league meeting, March 20-23. A couple of sites post that Detroit will receive a 3rd for Suh and a 5th for Fairley. Nothing for Collins.

Oh, ok cool. I figured we would be lucky to get one for Collins.

Agree on the guards. Maybe the jury is still out on Swanson, but I don't like him. Never liked the pick. Was hoping for Marcus Martin that season (He's been even worse than Swanson, so I don't know any better than the Leos). Hopefully Swanson improves this upcoming year.

As far as OL not being a safe pick, FiveThirtyEight did a study on this and have found OL picks just as big a crap shoot as any other position. The statistics actually favor OL picks but the data they use is a little skewed. Sounds like we have as big of a chance to bust on any other position.

What I'd like to see.

1. OT Jack Conklin (LB/S Su'a Cravens if Lions believe that Reiff, Ola, Lucas, and Robinson are good enough for the tackle depth)
2. DT Adolphus Washington or DT Sheldon Day
3. WR Sterling Shepard or S Vonn Bell
Late round picks:
C Matt Skura, WR Tajae Sharpe

I heard the same thing about Waddle and he is deflating balls in New England now.
