THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers the opportunity to weigh in on a relevant topic.
So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our passionate readers.
Today, we center the discussion on the Tigers? catching position and who might be #1 in ?21.
As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

Last year, the Tigers used Austin Romine, Grayson Greiner and Eric Haase behind the plate. All three struggled both offensively and defensively as catchers in the shortened season and finished with stats that were below-average in MLB.
Despite all of this, GM Al Avila has stated that signing a new catcher is not a priority for the team. Could A. J. Hinch, a former catcher himself, make a difference? Could the new coaches? Could Jake Rogers, who didn?t get the call to Detroit last year, have recovered and matured?
Who should the Tigers anoint as their #1 catcher for the 2021 season?
This is a tough one, folks. No write-in candidates!

Who should the Tigers anoint as their #1 catcher for the 2021 season?
1. Grayson Greiner
2. Eric Haase
3. Jake Rogers
4. Re-sign Austin Romine
5. Sign Alex Avila
6. None of the above

The Tigers announced that left-hander Robbie Ross, right-hander Andrew Moore, first baseman Aderlin Rodriguez and infielder Yariel Gonzalez have all been signed to minor league deals.
Ross is the most familiar name of the group, posting a 3.83 ERA over 321 2/3 innings as a workhorse member of the Rangers and Red Sox bullpens from 2012-16 (also starting 12 games with Texas in 2014). After an injury-riddled 2017, however, Ross hasn?t returned to the majors, pitching in the White Sox farm system and then independent ball.
Moore is the only other member of the quartet with MLB experience, as he tossed 63 2/3 innings for the Mariners (posting a 5.51 ERA) over parts of the 2017 and 2019 seasons.

What is your position on Miguel Cabrera playing first base for the Tigers this year?

Me: 1 game out of every 4 or 5 games. change to 1 every 7 to 10 games if he has trouble of any kind.

Can he stay healthy? The Tigers? recent history of signing pitchers to one-year deals has been prone to bad luck. (See Matt Moore, Ivan Nova, and Tyson Ross) I mentioned the blister earlier but let?s go back a few seasons.
June 2017: Low back strain 60-day disabled list
May 2018: Left shoulder strain, 10-day disabled list
August 2018: Strained left forearm, 10-day disabled list
In 2019, he did not miss any time due to injuries, and that season, he threw 176 innings, the second-highest amount in his career.

No thanks.
