2020 Dem candidate

Sadly I do not think he can’t beat that piece of shit in the Oval Office so maybe someone younger should get it.

My money is on Mayor Pete. Joe will implode, Bernie is starting to scare people, the party won’t want to risk going in with another woman, it already had a black guy and last but far from least, the party won’t be able to resist a married gay guy. Identity politics all the way for the democrat party.

It's not surprising at all that you would think that identity politics is specific to one party.

Joe is a Democrat and leading in the polls for the nomination, there's a pretty good chance only Bernie people will care and even then only up to the point where Bernie gets screwed out of the nomination. After that, they'll all fall in line because Orange man bad.

According to a CNN poll Beto beats trump by 10 in a head to head. I find that extremely hard to believe that guy is coked up IMO. CNN still on and on with their fake polls

If they're not fake, I'd like to see the pool of people they're polling.

I have close to zero use for the GOP. I have less than zero use for the democrat party. There is plenty of swamp on both sides of the aisle.

in what way do Republicans play identity politics? What racial, ethnic or religious group do Republicans pander to, grant victim status and demand that they vote R? Knuckleheads like champ who think white nationalists are a thing and the GOP sends dog whistles to get their support would disagree but that's just another bullshit identity politics play of the left. White supremacists in America are of no consequence, they can't impact an election and Republicans don't pander to them. Besides, we all know the Dems are the party of racism - always have been.

I agree with most "both sides do it" arguments but identity politics is purely a Dem play.

One could say that, given his smarmy character and background, Trump panders to Evangelicals.

There could be some evangelicals who are not white but the assumption is most evangelicals are white and protestant.

If there is one that I can think of, that would be the one.

Given that, a Republican pandering to evangelicals is like a minister preaching to the choir, the same as it is for Dems to work the diversity and multi-culturalism playbook.

Republican politicians may take the evangelical vote for granted but I think it's very different from how Dems approach group identity politics. Joe Biden went to a black church and told the congregation Republicans want to put them all back in chains. Dems tell the LGBTQ community that Republicans hate them and elections are about love vs. hate, they twist the argument about legal/illegal immigration to nonsense like Republicans fear the "browning" of America the list goes on and on. There are no Republican equivalents that even come close - they may talk up issues like the Democrats position on abortion, especially to evangelicals but that's not identity politics, that's simply telling the truth - besides pro life people don't fit into a particular demographic.

Trump was a Democrat who shared the Democrats position on abortion and switched when he decided to seek the Republican nomination, probably specifically to play identity politics with evangelicals-sure, there others who are pro-life people, but the Evangelicals are a power block to a republican candidate seeking the nomination.

I responded to the question you asked.

Your question was not ?how are the Republicans equivalent to the Democrats in playing identity politics??

Your question was the question I quoted.

Also, I didn?t say anything about Republicans playing identity politics-I limited it specifically to one single Republican.

other than Trump, who I agree and said the same thing during the campaign that up to that point, he had been a pro choice democrat, I don't think Republicans pander to evangelicals. They probably take them for granted, which they shouldn't because although they probably won't switch and vote for pro baby murderers, they have sat out elections and impacted outcomes that way.

Yeah I think we?re generally in agreement then.
