Why questioning Campbell as a 3 down LB? The best thing he does is pass coverage. No reason he won't be out there. His weakness is pass rushing and I don't think we would be asking him to do much of that anyway.

I read that he is terrible in pass coverage

Just googled Jack Campbell scouting reports. First 3 hits ALL have his weakness as m2m coverage. It's not a secret he will struggle at the NFL level covering TE & RB in man......he is going to be better than average in zone.......but we don't play a ton of zone coverages.

NFL.com analysis:

Weaknesses
Plays conservatively on his second-level perch.
Initial diagnosis movements lack suddenness.
Allows climbing blockers into frame before punching.
Needs to play off blocker with better efficiency.
Tall center of gravity slows change of direction in open field.
Lacking desired short-area burst in pursuit.
Long legs hinder ability to match in man coverage.

? Has a habit of taking on blocks square and stopping his feet on contact, which can cause him to lose ground if he doesn't win at the point of attack. Reliant on his upper-body strength.

? Only adequate hip fluidity. Doesn't have enough speed when spot-dropping/running backward to play a lot of Tampa 2 coverage.

? Subpar change of direction is an issue in man coverage against running backs and shifter tight ends and on scramble drills.

I think we got good football players picks 1-5.

Branch was our best pick. Gets a ton of positive scouting reports about his "through the roof" football IQ. Plays faster than he tests, he will be to the defense what Gibbs is to the offense. A chess piece to move around. Nickel, safety, dime LB.....cover man, blitz, zone.....he's good at all of it.

To me, Hooker was our "worst" pick of the first 2 rounds. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact they took a QB to develop and has some different skill sets than Goff does. But, the guy is 26 years old already. That lowers his ceiling quite a bit, IMO. He's only 2 years younger than Goff. That being said he throws a GREAT deep ball and hopefully can learn for a year or two and be ready to take over in 2024 or 2025.
