2025 Tigers Spring Training

I will say, at least Malloy, Tork and Keith are ALL hitting this spring. That's why they're trying malloy amd tork in the OF to try and keep all 3 up.

This is why I didn't like the Torres signing. They should have kept Keith at 2B and let him figure it out. Tork showed signs of improvements at 1B last year.

Days of Roar Tigers Podcast. Did Detroit Tigers make the best choice at third base by cutting Jace Jung? 65 minutes.

Producer's note: After recording, the Detroit Tigers optioned Jace Jung to Triple-A Toledo, which means he won't make the Tigers' Opening Day roster. Keep that in mind as you listen to this episode.

With 10 days until Opening Day, the position battles for the Tigers in spring training have heated up to the max. The Tigers have 10 of 13 position players locked in, three of five starting pitchers locked in, and seven of eight relief pitchers locked in. A lot could happen in the final week of camp, but the Opening Day roster is coming into focus with clear frontrunners in those competitions. Still, the Tigers have a lot of questions to answer as the regular season approaches.
Center fielder Parker Meadows has been ruled out for Opening Day with an upper arm nerve issue, so how long will Wenceel Pérez be relied upon as the primary center fielder? Without Jace Jung, is a platoon of Zach McKinstry and Andy Ibáñez good enough at third base? Most notably, should the Tigers have just put Jung on the roster because of his long-term upside on offense?
Other topics include Javier Báez and Spencer Torkelson testing out new positions, Riley Greene in center field, the Spring Breakout prospect game (Bryce Rainer!), and what we saw from Andrew Navigato. Another thing: Did Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris do enough this offseason to prepare the Tigers for success this season?

Now that Jace Jung has been sent down to Toledo, the Detroit Tigers have no viable 3Ber until Matt Vierling (hopefully) comes back. It will be McKinstry, Ibanez and Baez. None of these options will put smiles on our faces.
You would think the Tigers would explore acquiring Rafael Devers from Boston, forced out of 3B with the addition of Alex Bregman. Reports have him close to asking to be traded. But that won't work either.
Devers has another 9 years on his contract, totalling $284 mill still owed. He'll be almost 37 years old when his contract ends. The Tigers have been there, done that too many times.

The Tigers have optioned left-handed pitcher Sean Guenther and infielder Jace Jung to Triple-A Toledo.Major League camp now has 39 players.

Kirk Gibson to step away from booth, remain a special assistant.

Kirk Gibson will not be on the Detroit Tigers broadcast team this season.
The former outfielder, manager, and broadcaster will focus on his charitable work going forward.

3 Tigers who will not factor into the team's plans come the 2025 trade deadline.
As the Detroit Tigers turn the page on an unexpectedly successful 2024 season, some names will inevitably not be part of their plans as the 2025 season progresses.
