For the love of god Borges can we find some balance for DR.. I know Smith stepped up today but we have to find a consistent running game.. I know he is stronger as a junior but DR will not make it the whole season rushing it that many times in a game...

I'm fine with running Robinson - but when the game is 28-3 and you're still running Robinson.....That's messed up. If that's all we have on offense - then that's all we have on offense...but that game was well out of hand and they were still rushing him right up the middle and he was getting smacked. Sorry but I'd rather see Gardner in there handing off to smith and running a few than I would Robinson.

I still say 8 wins but yes this year will make us want to pull our hair out.

I agree bob, we ran I and did not have a problem. There is no reason to run qb option at all the rest of the 2nd half. We have runners, give them the ball.

Do you know exactly when this offense starting clicking in the 2nd half? When Denard start doing zone reads and scrambling. They were absolutely stalling out in the beginning. It was working, and then near the end, the RBs started getting some big carries. Yes, it was a bit too many carries. But, you need to look at the 3 games played. Denard has around 17 carries/game. Without looking at last year, I'm guessing that is substantially less than before.

I'm curious if Nebraska fans share the same sentiment about Taylor Martinez, seeing as how he has more carries after 3 games than Robinson.

Also, just wondering, but how many of those carries were just Denard doing what he does best and just carrying the ball because the throw wasn't there?

We are calling the plays we need to call to win. Shoelace is what he is. He is a running QB who can throw when he needs to. I still see this team getting better as the game and the year goes by.

All i am saying is you need better balance to be a better team.. No reason whatsoever to have DR in the game up 28-3... One we cannot afford for him to get hurt. And two we need to get Gardner some decent reps. All of you who thinks it is OK remember DR left a whole string of games last year.. I know the read option is a fantastic weapon with DR running it but we need to be better then just that..

Here's what Hoke said about Gardner..

When it was 28-3, did you think about giving Devin some snaps?

I agree with you on that Bob. So far Drob hasnt left injured with is a good sign but I do feel like we are playing with fire. I do think Gardner could play well if he had to. But I dont want to test that for a few more years.

Every team is playing with fire every game. If you want to play scared, and shelve D Rob because you are scared he's going to get hurt, then Hoke needs to be in a different industry.

I'm fine with things. In fact, I think it showed Borges is willing to adjust and adapt. I don't think Shoelace is into the game until he's running and getting hit. It gets him in rhythm in the passing game and tempo ...Vinny, Fitz & Koger all stepped in once the O began to click.

But between an inevitable hangover from The Lights and an easy to look past opponent, I think you have to do what you have to do to win. I'm sure Lakers coaches don't want Kobe taking 1/2 the team's shots but if he's hitting from outside and taking over, you let him do his thing.

All that said, we look an awful lot like last year ....7-8 wins still

And watching the game again, the commentator just said Denard has a 'sore arm' at the 5minute mark of Q2, before Martin's helmet problem

Overall, the offense may look similar, but the D is totally different. They already have forced a lot of turnovers, they are willing to make adjustments, and they have been able to stop the ground game of Eastern and ND after being gashed early, which is not what I'm used to seeing. So, I don't think saying they look a lot like last year is a fair statement.

I agree completely with this. I guess the standard for the spread option zone read QB is Pat White at WVU. They're similar in size, but White in 4 years never had over 200 carries in a season. White had a Steve Slaton with him (and Slaton isn't much over 200 if at all, and HIS high in rushing attempts was 248, and Denard had 256 last year) and we'd love to see DR get one of those, whether it be Fitz, Shaw, Smith, Hop, Rawls, hell, Kovacs!

Hoke/Borges did some good things yesterday and made some good adjustments. But they messed up in one giant area. Denard should not have been running the ball in the second half yesterday. Period.
