FAN FAVORITES.
Totally Tigers

Over the New Year?s holiday weekend, I asked fans submit their top 5 favorite Detroit Tiger players. And if you?ve been reading this blog for awhile now, you know there?s always a challenge involved.

It was having to submit only your top 5. Nothing more. No ?two-fers? by trying to count Tram and Lou as one.

It was your ?ride or die? list. It was having to make some very hard choices.

It wasn?t supposed to be easy.

And a large number of you accepted the challenge. In fact, a record number of responses. Even over a holiday! Obviously, some of you were really sick of seeing your relatives.

More than 100 of you responded either here at the blog or via Twitter. I?ve now tabulated the responses and have summarized them below.

Only players were counted. And for those who submitted more than 5, those votes were excluded.

Without further adieu, here are the final results! The order is arranged from most to least votes. Players tied for the same count are in alphabetical order.

Al Kaline ? 40

Alan Trammell ? 26

Justin Verlander ? 22

Miguel Cabrera ? 18

Mark Fidrych ? 16

Norm Cash ? 14

Ty Cobb ? 14

Mickey Lolich ? 14

Hank Greenberg ? 10

Willie Horton ? 9

Kirk Gibson ? 8

Bill Freehan ? 6

Dick McAuliffe ? 6

Lou Whitaker ? 6

Gates Brown ? 4

Frank Lary ? 4

Rocky Colavito ? 3

Charlie Gehringer ? 3

Chet Lemon ? 3

Jack Morris ? 3

Mickey Stanley ? 3

Tommy Bridges ? 2

Cecil Fielder ? 2

Charlie Maxwell ? 2

Magglio Ordonez ? 2

Aurelio Rodriquez ? 2

Hank Aguirre ? 1

Earl Averill ? 1

Rocky Bridges ? 1

Tommy Brookens ? 1

Jim Bunning ? 1

Mickey Cochrane ? 1

Sam Crawford ? 1

Travis Fryman ? 1

Curtis Granderson ? 1

Carlos Guillen ? 1

John Hiller ? 1

Torii Hunter ? 1

Jose Iglesias ? 1

Brandon Inge ? 1

Harvey Kuenn ? 1

Ron LeFlore ? 1

Aurelio Lopez ? 1

Denny McLain ? 1

Jim Northrup ? 1

Lance Parrish ? 1

Frank Tanana ? 1

The three biggest takeaways for me was that Al Kaline came very close to receiving almost half of the total votes. No one else came even close.

Then there?s the huge discrepancy in votes between Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker.

And Miguel Cabrera shows why he is still the most popular Tiger on the team today by earning a top spot. Running very close to Justin Verlander. Both were named, appropriately, the franchise faces of the organization.

What stood out for you?
