I'm actually starting to believe all the hype and rumors that we may resign Suh to a long term deal.

With Mayhew saying the team will not cut or restructure Jason Jones (lord only knows why) it's starting to feel like he has a very good idea of where the money will sit this season.

You are a Lions fan....you have been a sucker for ___ years!

I'm a sucker thinking they're cut bait..

Plus, wouldn't it make sense that if Suh was resigned Jones would be a cut or restructure casualty?

Suh re-signed still gives alot of cap space. Might just restructure a few people. Meaning we could keep Jones. Suh franchised means we would probably have to cut Jones but that wasn't a given either. Depends how much extra space we wanted. Could mean they aren't pursuing Fairley actually. Jones cut money would be used for Fairley if Suh is franchised. If Suh gets long term then we can get Fairley back too.

It's looking like a long term deal. Jones did solid in run defense, came on at the end in pass rush. Blocked the big FG against the Vikings. He produced. One less hole with him and George Johnson back (tendered).

And Jones can play DT too. Makes sense to keep that versatility if you are losing Fairley.

The lions won't play the season with Suh franchised, it makes no sense.

It makes perfect sense. Two years (drafts) to rebuild the DT Dline, one with Suh playing for us. So if we took a rookie this year, year 2 we would be relying on him with Suh gone. I'd rather that then year 1. He'll produce in year 1 but won't have to be the guy.

No future cap hit for a franchise tag either. They can make the room to do it cutting Tulloch/Bush (5.7 million in room) and restructuring Stafford/Calvin (partial), Tate/Quin (13 million in 2015 room). The cap committments will actually be lower thanks to those two cuts even with the four restructures. They won't just let Suh walk. That makes no sense. We would still be 6 million under and that already accounts for the draft. Plenty to operate for the other guys to re-sign and get one higher tier free agent.

Lol,, your're keeping Suh and a $26 mil cap hit to help a rookie DT? Seriously?
resign Fairley bring in Dockett, if cut...save 20 mil in the meantime

I'm keeping Suh so we have another top 3 defense. Suh, Ansah, Jones, Levy, Whitehead, Van Noy, Slay, Mathis back, Quin and Dig ensure that. Plus I'd draft a CB in Round 1 or 2.

Your restructuring will cost us 5-6 mil the next 2-3 years...unless you think we're winning the SB this year?

The restructuring will cost us 5.1 million in 2016 and 2017. But the cuts of Tulloch and Bush will lower the cap commitment by 13 million in 2016. So actually we would have less committed than we do currently (106.5 million). More room to spend.

Why do you want to cut J Jones?

I didn't say I did. What I meant was if Suh was to be signed it makes sense that someone needs to restructure or cut yet Mayhew says Jones isn't a restructure candidate or a cut candidate. So it makes me believe Suh won't be signed..

They can make room for a Suh franchise wihtout cutting Jones.

Jones in last yr and replacing him will cost more or you rely on D Taylor

Staff will be 25 mill in 2016 and 2017
CJ will be 26 and 24

I gave you the total number. 106.5 +5.1-13 million. Tons of room even with Stafford and Calvin's big number (which are accounted for). Stafford will probably get a new deal before 2016 is my bet anyway.

Just Levy and Reiff to re-sign in 2016. Or 5th year option for Reiff in 2016. Slay, Warford still have 2016 under contrat. Ansah can get 5th year option in 2017.

Tons of cap room. Even if Suh had a 17 million cap number in year 2 on his new deal.

Replacing him with a draft pick wouldn't cost more cap room or money in 2015. However, you have to use a day 1 or day 2 pick so there is a cost there.

I can see why they are keeping Jones though with his versatility and run defense.

Oh were re-signing Suh now? We were talking franchise..you're a moving target as usual..do your self a favor and put this down in a spreadsheet, like I have, then you'll see the ramifications of tagging and playing him this year
