Another player signs that Tigers didn't

Spockmaster said:
if we start the season with young on the roster and starting, he DID mess up. i dont care who he gets replaced with, dejesus just would have been a great option and all signs pointed to DD not even inquiring about him or showing any interest whatsoever even though he probably should have.

Good thing its November 30. Geez man, let the offseason commence before you rip on a guy. Young wasn't all that bad, and the postseasn was damn good.

I think you could make a case that DYoung is 1 of the worst everyday players in the league.

im just frustrated that we've already seen some players (dejesus, carroll) sign elsewhere that most of us thought would be excellent fits here without so much as a whisper of a rumor from DD. i am hoping (and, frankly, expecting) that he will have some big stuff in store down the line, but for now its frustrating. plus he got most of his stuff done in november last year, so i was hoping he'd do a little bit more this month than just sign our backup catcher.

Maybe we get someone better? I'll rip on him too if status quo is the same but not before the winter meetings or before February.

Reminds me of the Lions, thought Tulloch wasn't signing and eventually we got him and Durant. Plus Houston back cheap. I'll give it a little time.

The problem with this is that some of those others you were thinking about are also on the Tigers. Our offense was good last season but spread around to about 5 guys.

ill be genuinely pissed off if nothing happens by the time the winter meetings are over, thats typically his most busy time for signings and trades. at this point im hoping for us to sign kelly johnson, trade for a 3B (izturis, prado, or headley preferably), and find a new outfielder so we can jettison young. at the very least id like 2b and 3b filled by the end of the meetings.

If we do get an OF who is out there that would be a better bat than Young?

I know it prob sounds lame but I really think Illitch will demand they go all out this off season. He's got nothing to lose and time is running out on him. It's unfortunate that the 2 top FA play 1st. Otherwise I wouldn't have been surprised if he seriously pursued 1.

It is more likely that those guys had no interest in playing for Detroit. As far as Dejesus.....why is everyone so pissed he signed elsewhere. He sucks!

idk about that Tom, maybe last year, but a number of years the guy was a very good player in left/center/right for the royals. and could also leadoff something the Tigers are concerned with.

this. he doesnt have a ton of power, but he plays very good defense and aside from last year in the offensive wasteland known as oakland and the AL west, he was quite good offensively especially at getting on base. both of those things were skills we are very lacking in.

Maybe sucks is a little bit of an overstatement.....but certainly nothing to get excited about.

we already have several players to get excited about, we need complimentary players to them now.

I understand that....it's just a lot of people on this thread are acting like the Tigers missed out on signing Matt kemp

i think its more the frustration at the prospect of keeping young than losing dejesus. he was just one of the better candidates.

I went thru the posts...Nobody suggested DeJesus is an All Star. He's a solid player, maybe even only a 4th Of, but for 5 mil he'd be a great addition. I'd take him over Boesch or Young everyday of the week.
