At UM

Agreed. Rich Rod and Hoke used to beat msu out on the guys they wanted too. That's no different now. Msu isn't bad because UM is better. Msu is bad because msu is bad

I used to think Harbaugh was going to make it tougher for us to compete in the B1G and maybe he has but that has almost nothing to do with what's happening with the program. The reason we're losing all these games is that we're putting an absolute garbage product on the field. the record of MSU teams harbaugh has beaten is a combined 14-20 (so far). These teams would lose to Hoke and Rich Rod uofm teams. If Dantonio knack is coaching up lesser talent, he's lost his touch.

I was a little disappointed when my nephew who was raised in East Lansing by 2 Spartan parents chose OSU over MSU (he's a freshman) but he is going to get a great education and have a lot more fun every fall than he would if he'd stayed closer to home. He assures me he's going to remain a big MSU hoops fan but he's all-in for the Buckeyes for football - and I dont blame him.

I agree with this and gotimes posts 100%. Our wounds are 95% self inflicted

Yeah, Dantonio was never able to capitalize on Rich Rod neglecting the state/region or from Hoke's general incompetence. During that time, whatever Michigan kids uofm didn't get went to OSU or elsewhere. Other than 2016 which was 9 years into Dantonio's career and ended up being a complete disaster, we've never seen much of an uptick in 4 and 5 star talent - not that I expect a lot of 5 stars but I don't see why we can't be more competitive for 4 star kids.

I was looking at the 2020 rankings and we're somewhere around 41st which puts us 9th in the B1G behind schools like NW, Neb, Minnie and Purdue. thats some shameful Sh*t there - we 4th or 5th virtually every year. wisconsin has done it and they were a virtual doormat for decades. PJ Fleck is already out-recruiting Dantonio. Also, 41st sounds a bit high - we have one 4 star commit and something like 12 3 star kids and a 2 star. It's probably a numbers thing - based more on quantity than overall quality.

Dantonio should only be allowed to return if he replaces his entire staff. His reorganization idea has been a failure. Time to get some new, up and coming small school talent in here.

I heard a theory on ESPNU yesterday. Their theory was he didn't / doesn't want to fire his guys and hire a new staff because he is about to retire. That makes sense to me.

great, so he can recommend one of them for the HC job after he retires next year. Yay. Maybe we'll get co-head coaches Mike Tressel and Dave Warner or maybe Tressel and Jim Bollman.

But that doesn't explain why he didn't fire any of them 3 years ago.

You remind me of the Michigan fans who made excuse after excuse for RichRod, and blamed his truly atrocious defenses all on his DCs. They never liked answering the question "Who hired the DC?"

you remind me of Warren from There's Something About Mary.

I've been critical of several of Dantonio's hires and I've said the poor choices he's made in hiring and not firing are a big part of why he's a good but not great coach. And I've also made the point that as the head coach he deserves his share of the blame, particularly for what's happened with the defense lately since that's his background in coaching. But you found one sentence where I didn't include all that so obviously, I don't think Dantonio has any culpability in all this - nice job Warren.

Edit: by the way, have you come up with that list of Dantonio's 4 main competitors that were all "blowing up" to explain why he had no competition when he was having success?

Good try, now go find your baseball.

I have to give you some credit though - you never tire of saying stupid and obviously false shit, getting proved wrong and walking away only to come back and say something equally dumb and incorrect and expect to be taken seriously as if you actually have a shred of credibility.

The day they hired Jim Bollman I remember researching him and questioning it big time and seemingly being in the minority of MSU fans against it

The day they hired him, I was still working at the same place as Fickell's brother. I remember posting that I just asked him what he thought about the hire and he just laughed and said Ohio State fans wanted to get rid of him for years. Then I got into it with Sbee and maybe Johnny too, but definitely Sbee who defended the hire - back then, in his eyes Dantonio was infallible. Not sure how he feels about it now.
