Avril gone?

its enough to resonate in a clubhouse....sure, i bet most guys on the team feel that avril didnt deserve that much money. But when delmas is starting to make similar comments....its not good. Avril would be in the 3rd year of a much lower deal if mayhew extended him when avril wanted to.

Only the ones that are injury prone. Regardless what Delmas says, it was probably more fair than his asking price. One more injury and he'll need 6 million dollar surgery.

And he would still suck.....what's your point. Mayhew made a smart move with Avril.

smart move would have been extending him prior to his "proove it" year and hed be making 4-6 mil this year. payhing him 10.6 mil last year was in no way "smart".

Paying a terrible player 4-6 M this year and beyond is dumber.

Mayhew was right with Avril.

If I remember correctly he wanted a tons last year. I don't think we could have signed him for anything close to 4-6m in 2012.

so thats why we take luxory WRs in the 2nd round when you know the following year you wont have any starters at DE? Really planning ahead Mayhew! Nothing about the Avril situation has been smart. Contract talks prior to the tag, the tag, the exit strategy.....its all been dumb.

Not having him on the roster this year is nothing short of GENIUS!!!!

he wanted an extension prior to the year he got tagged....when his numbers werent very good. mayhew told him to play well and hed get paid. he played close to pro bowl level and mayhew tagged him instead of paying him. Mayhew stuck his foot in his mouth which is why avril has been such a dick about the whole thing.

End of 2010 was the second last year of his initial contract. That is usually the traditional contract extension year since if you play out the next year you either lose the player for nothing or tag him. Since he was coming off a 3 year 1.6 mil contract but it is not a stretch to grab him for 4 for 6 per back at the end of 2010 (all ifs and buts now). He blew up in 2011 the last year of his contract. MM gambled and lost.

correct....so you already fucked up and mayhew then decided to fuck it up worse by paying a shit player 10.6 million lol. He fucked up his fuck up yet people still have blinders on with this guy somehow. If in your heart of hearts avril was never the guy then what have we done to fix it? Hes done nothing. LKP will come on here and say jackson and willie young lmao. And ill say...like i said....hes done nothing to fix the situation. No high round draft picks...no free agents....nothing but overpaying a guy that is pissed off so he can stay here another year and suck while being paid close to 11 mil.

you see what happened was drafting BPA over need. in that way you get really good quality at a couple positions and shit everywhere else. except that when those BPAs don't pan out, and injuries happen, well, then...

you just have shit.

the entire BPA thing is so bloody flawed. the only quality draft picks have been the picks that filled a need. they needed a QB, they took the best QB on the board. they needed a DT, they took the best DT on the board.

it is more about recognizing your areas of need and taking the BPA at that position than to just look at who is the overall BPA. even if it means you take a guy who would have been drafted 10-20 picks later. some bitch that doing that is making a stretch. no it isn't. there has ALWAYS been someone picked up within 20 spots of where we took guys who were BPA who would have filled a need and went on to prove that they are quality starters. instead, we draft RBs and WRs instead of getting those guys who, if they were on the team today, would make so many arguments on this board moot.

instead mayhew has drafted need only in late rounds, hence a bunch of scrubs at LB and DB. this way he can tell fans how much they have worked to fix the problems, yet the performance on the field clearly indicates something drastically different. and now there are so many needs once again, they are back to drafting like they did going into 2010.
