Avril Update

Willie Young and Lo Jack would do as well if not better than Avril, IMO.

I'm not saying Avril is bad....but he is still TERRIBLE against the run and he has been here 3 years and still has ONE pass rush move. ONE. In no way should we give him elite DE money.

He isn't elite.

How would they do better? They're backups. What have they done to prove that they're better DE's than Avril? Seriously what? ...lol.

And why does everybody care how many moves Avril has to get to the QB? He gets to the QB...end of fn story. If he threw in a spin move would it make everybody feel better about themselves? Holy fn shit!!!

Oh, and he's NOT asking for ELITE DE money. It's been talked about about at nauseum on this board. He's looking for "similar" money than guys like Charles Johnson and Hali.

But he's not looking for the same money as Hali and Johnson. He said similar money. I guessed around 8-10. What's the deal? Nobody has a fn clue what he REALLY wants but he's not looking for TOP DE money. He just wants to be rewarded and he should be.....

I'm with you on this one Tony. If Jackson and Young were better, they'd be the starters rather than rotation and situation guys. Have they looked good in spots? Could they be starters in the future? Possibly. That is the advantage of the young DE depth we have now. But since we already have one good young DE with a long and bright future in the league, a smart FO will look to lock him up. I guess time will tell. Moreover KVB isn't getting any younger and survived major neck surgery this year. Depth can go to weakness real quick.

Who gives a shit what Avril is a product of? Is Suh going anywhere? No, he's not. So, why not keep Avril next to him for the next 5 years? It makes sense, no?

And he has been one of our "best defensive players" on the team. Name 2 other players better besides Suh. You can't! He's improved every year. It's not about having a fn hard-on for the guy. It's about not giving up your young talent. It's fn retarded if they let him go IMO. And to say that if you put anybody next to Suh, they'd do just as well as Avril is dead wrong.

I'm on the fence with this one, Tony. I like Avril, but it really depends on the price and the longer term impact. I think we could snag a starting DE in this draft who would look good next to our DTs, but that might be KVB's replacement rather than Avril's. I'm hoping MM's first move this offseason is getting CJ locked up long term. After that, we can focus on the FA situations.

That IS top DE money. Jared Allen makes about $12 mil per year. Peppers is the only DE I can think of with a contract above that.

I know that nobody has a clue. My point is just that Avril seems to be willing to simply go with the highest bidder from everything I've read. On the open market, you don't think some team is dumb enough to give him $12 mil?

If he only wants $8 mil, awesome. I'd be happy. We'll see.

A sedative?? ...lol. Ok. Listen, i'm just not on the side of letting a promising young DE go for nothing. I don't think he gets 12 mill but i think he deserves between 8-10 for fun. Believe it or not, but Avril is one of our best defensive players on the team. Letting him walk is stupid IMO...
